Has any other team in NKY history put a running clock on every Kentucky opponent they played? Tough to argue against the 2017 team.

 

Best Covcath team yes, Best in NKY history? Idk. While you can use the running clock in every team. The running clock for the majority of years was 45 not just 36.

 

Plus it could be argued that Covcath never did actually play or beat a single top 10 team in the state last year.

When you look at what the defense did combined with he offensive output it’s hard to argue. The number of players from both sides of the ball playing or likely to play Saturdays speaks volumes. This speaking about CCH history not NKY but they have to be in that conversation too.

What other team had a College QB throwing to four College players and a College player (maybe 2) in backfield. With at least one or two College linemen.

Likely 3 College players at LB and a DE and a safety playing In College.

Huh? They running clocked South Warren who smacked Bowling Green. Every game they played in was boring by halftime and allowed JV players to finish it out with a 24 minute running clock

I don't know if I would call beating someone by a TD "smaked"? Cov Cath was a level above this year but I don't see any real big boys on their schedule like a GCL team, Colrain, T or X type of deal. I don't know if Bishop Chatard or if St Francis are real big time progams? No idea. I think if they would have scheduled like Moeller or Trinity they probably would have hung around with them, maybe beaten Lou St Xavier soundly. We'll never know... if they would have beaten some goliath program they would have a serious claim to best ever in NKY. They would still have some competition in that discussion though.

Not sure South Warren was a top ten in KY. It's interesting that a few weeks prior to their beating Bowling Green they had lost to the Purples by the exact same score as their loss to CCH. I think that keeps them out of the top ten in KY.

87-88 had Donny Bieger (Ashland) and Paul Hladon (Princeton but offers from Stanford and Miami and top 25 rated qb in nation) throwing to David Legeay (Vandy), David Wilson (Capt at Miami Oh), Brian Williams (Columbia), Scott Spivey (Columbia), Mike Wilson (Princeton), David McGee (Centre).

LB's Mike Wolff (best LB in CCH history Toledo), Dana Granger (Centre), Chris Wagner (TMC), and again 6 DB's that played in college. Didn't mention Scott Tranter is a HOF player. He didn't play college, but could have easily.

Barry Jones started at UK and Mike Flesch was "all american" D3 on the line.

Not sure where the huh came from. As i stated it could definitely be argued that Covcath maybe never did play a true top 10 team in the state last year. Putting running clocks on everyone was impressive. However at the end of the day, we never did get to see them against the other true top teams in ky. Ryle even showed with their 1st round loss, that they weren't even a top 10 team in the state. This is the same argument I used when people said Covcath maybe could beat Trinity. Covcath was great and in the conversation for best team in nky history. Unfortunately they didn't get to play any other true top teams in this state in reference to the 10 best teams in the state.

I don't know if South Warren would be in the top 10. Quite honestly BG was probably still the better team, but not on that one day. What is weird is Cov Cath usually plays an unrealistically hard schedule. They usually have like 2 GCL teams and something else too. I don't know if they got stuck in contracts with some of these other teams. I'm sure at the end of 2016 Eddie knew what he was going to have this year and gave it a shot to get one of those freak Cov Cath schedules but it seems like scheduling is getting harder. Plus those other GCL teams may have wanted to pass on the Colonels because it wasn't a sure win and thus a little risky for Ohio schools.

What could be a cool other thread is what is the Mt Rushmore of NKY football teams all time? This Colonel team is there. There would one or two Highlands squads and then I don't know, would a Beechwood / Boone / SK team be in there? Another Cov Cath team?
