If he gets it turned around quickly, then the Reds will have someone to dangle out there in a trade. If it takes time (past the trade deadline), and he has a good September, then he's leaving via FA for a bigger check than the Reds should/would write. If he can't flat out do anything, then they'll let him go without giving it a second thought.

You really think they are have that much foresight to flip him? I feel like it’s a depth play and maybe sign him to a 3 year 15 mill if he’s average.
May 9, 20188 yr Harvey is making $5.6 million right now. If he returns to top of the rotation form he will garner probably in the $15-20 mil a year range. If he’s just mediocre, he’ll probably still get a raise to $7.5-10 mil. Sad but true.

His trade value if he turns it around is double a backup catcher making $13.5 million whose played 125 games out of a possible 648 in the last 4 years.

It comes down to one thing for Harvey - if he gets his fastball back over 94 MPH then he has a chance to be effective again. This season he has been sitting around 93. In his high point years several years back, he was around 97 MPH. Watch the radar.

In his high point years several years back, he was around 97 MPH. Watch the radar. Yup, which results in a 5.00 ERA guy... hasn’t had a plus pitch since 2015. He certainly hasn’t adapted to the decreased velocity. He’s got minor league “stuff” right now.
