I dont know about securing his job, but dont you think 6 is a lot better than what we are used to? It seems to me that everyone wants this program to turn around over night. Its not going to happen. This season and probably next Id be happy with 6 wins.

You are correct in thsaat 6 wins is an improvement, as cville stated and to me anyway this is not enough. How many years are we going to have to hear "were hoping for 6 wins and a bowl game" or "we have things going in the right direction" and so on and so on. I believe that UK football fans have waited and heard this same old song and dance long enough. I know that there are no easy answers especially in the conference that we are in but I do want more than saying 6 wins is a sucsessfull season in Lexington.

Personally, I'd be quite happy to average 7-5 or 8-4 over the long term of UK football. If you're expecting 10-2 every year in the SEC, well... keep dreaming. The big boys don't do that.

Rich Brooks will be on the sidelines next season if UK loses all the rest of their games besides UL Monroe. I would look for a certain defensive coordinator to be in the unemployment line.

6 wins this season is an improvement mobaar, no question. My point was how many years have we heard "shooting for,5-6-7 wins next year an we are still waiting and will be saying the same thing year after year if this idea remains acceptable. I am not expecting 10-2 seasons with us being in the SEC, that would be the impossible dream. As for "the big boys don't do that", that was real cute I respect your opinion as well as anyones on here but my opinion is that I am sick of saying a .500 season would be acceptable. If "the big boys" accept that then count me out of your "big boys" group. Maybe if we didn't hear this EVERY year it would be different. It's like the Cubs saying "wait till next year' and the next year they are more than likely pitiful as well. A 7-5 or 8-4 season would be nice but I don't see it happening anytime soon. I hope that I am wrong and would gladly eat a huge serving of crow. That crow would be the best tasting I have ever eaten and that is quite a bit.

More important to Rich Brooks than number of wins might be number of people coming through the turnstiles at Commonwealth Stadium. The place has not been full yet, even with the South Carolina game.

My point is that in the long haul .500 seasons aren't acceptable, but coming on the heels of 4-8, 2-9, 3-8 is IS an improvement.

 

And as for not seeing a 7-5 season anytime soon, theres still a possibility it happens this year. 3 very winnable games coming up, and a stumbling UGA coming to commonwealth ripe for the upset.

I like him and I feel that he is doing an OK job. The fact is 99.9% of all fans have no idea what REALLY goes into coaching a major college football program. You can cheat (Mumme), instill no discipline so long as your players win (John L.) or do things the right way (IMO Brooks). I kind of wish we had gotten him earlier in his career...seriously.

I agree Oldrambler. If the bar isn't raised, the turn around will not happen. You have to set your goals high if you want to achieve success.

Crunch the financial numbers and you'll see that there is no way UK will fire Brooks unless they absolutely have to. They'll look for a scapegoat to please the fan base, and based on the high school defense we've fielded this season - we all know who that will be.
