Fulton City being investigated by KHSAA?

I have heard that a player that had been playing at Fulton City was called out and deemed ineligible by the KHSAA after their game against Murray a couple of Fridays ago. If this is true, and it has been said that the player did not get to play in the Mayfield-Fulton City game, will Fulton have to forfeit their entire season, including their district games? If so, assuming they win this Friday against Fulton County, that would put them in 4th place in the district. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

It is hard to say what would take place...as if he is deemed ineligible then any game that he played in would have to be forfeited...now if he did not get in a game then they could count that win...so it would have to be determined if he got in all the games...especially the two wins over Ballard and Murray...especially seeing how the Murray game was pretty close for the most part.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out if it is true and deemed correct...but also sad for the kids at Fulton City that have played so far this season and for Coach Lohaus.

Yeah, I agree, it will be sad for the other teammates that won the games legitimately. Apparently the kid wasn't one of the standout players so that makes it even a tougher pill to swallow. But if they have to give up their distict wins it would put Ballard at a 1 game win and that would put them tied with ballard and it is looking like if they win against Fulton county, they would tied with them as well, so a 3 way tie if they have to forfeit these games, very interesting.

If I am not mistaken that would give Ballard the nod for the #4 spot and leave Fulton City out because that would give Ballard the head to head win by forfeit. Isn't this the same thing that happened to Danville a few years back when they had to forfeit games but went on to win the state title

If this is true...I wonder when, or if, a ruling will be made by the KHSAA on the status of Fulton City's player and whether or not they will have to forfeit any games that he played in...if so will make it interesting as that would squarely put Murray as the #2 seed, and would make the tiebreaker real intersting as if Fulton City wins...then the Pilots would get the 3-way tiebreaker as both Ballard and Fulton City neither would have a win outside of the teams in the tiebreaker as Ballards two victims South Fulton, and Muhlenberg North do not have any wins this season. Does anyone one know what the tiebreaker is if you are tied after the first tiebreaker of total wins by your opponents you have beaten....man on man...this could turn out to be a real headache of a situation. Now this means that Mayfield and Ballard could very well play in back-to-back weeks.

Here's hoping that the powers that be at the KHSAA make a quick decision on the status of the young man.

There was an articile in today's Paducah Sun that confirmed that the KHSAA is investigating the program for the use of two possibly ineligible players that transferred in from Fulton County, and Union City, TN. No names were given on the players but Coach Lohaus says that one was a starter on defense and the other played on special teams, but that neither player played last week against Mayfield as he was made aware of the possible infractions last Thursday at the KHSAA delegates meeting in Lexington. Coach Lohaus in the article admits that it was the administration's fault for not turning in the proper paperwork on the two players. If Fulton City has to forfeit its 7 wins then they will miss the playoffs no matter what happens against Fulton County as Murray would be the #2 seed, Fulton County #3, and Ballard Memorial getting the #4 seed and playing Mayfield in the first round. Julian Tackett says that he is hopeful for a quick ruling in the next day or so to let the teams know what is going on and what the playoffs could shape up as.

No matter what...it is a sad situation for the players of Fulton City...and from the way it sounds no fault of the two players in question. Best of luck to the Bulldogs on the ruling.

This is beginning to sound similar to Danville's situation at the beginning of last season. And yes, they will have to forfeit any games in which an inelligible player played.

Timing is the big issue now. When will the KHSAA complete their investigation?

If they do it in the next week, then FC will have to forfeit all those games and possibly miss the playoffs.

BUT, if they do it after the playoffs start, then it is water under the bridge and they would be allowed to continue in the playoffs in whatever seeding their wins have gotten them, as long as they aren't using the ineligible players. If it was truly a paperwork issue, then the players may be eligible after the paperwork is filed and be able to play in the playoffs, too.

How would it knock Fulton City completely out of the playoffs? Wouldn't Ballard and Fulton City be tied for 4th? Are you saying that Ballard would automatically get 4th cause they would have 2 more wins than Fulton City for the tiebreaker?

See posts #4, yes if they forfeit they are out of the playoffs because they would finish lasts

Ballard would get the nod because Fulton City would have had to forfeit all of their wins and the head to head matchup with Ballard.

Hopefully Tackett will live up to his words and have a ruling on this issue by this Friday nights game one way or another.

Just a sad situation for one of the feel good stories of the year for the Fulton City program.

That was totally different, in this case, it seems like the kid might be ineligible only because the proper paperwork wasn't filed. Unless I am misreading what was posted.

In the Danville case, if the paperwork had been filed on time, he would have been eligible, and was again after the paperwork was processed.

With the Ft.Thomas didnt the kid in question get to play in the playoffs until the title game? Has the rule changed at all in three years?

Nothing was brought up in this case until the playoffs had started and feet were drug w/the KHSAA until after semi's. The player in question was the key to Highlands winning since he did most of the scoring. He did not play in the state finals.
