Corbin vs. Garrard Co.

Isaac Mills, Eric Blackwood, and Ryan Tate made Clint a good QB as well as Clint unbelievable abilty to see the field, know coverages, and throw the ball. He is a great QB but you have to have some experiace surrounding you. Don't doubt it, they will find their click in the palyoffs and look out next year. The recievers we have now are still growing up and in to their positions. Rob Madon is a great reciver and is showing his potential, he will end up being a big time player the kid has as much heart and leadership abilty as anybody on the team. Jordan Wagers needs the experiance, he showed at M'boro he has the potential and size to rack up some big time numbers. Jake Reeves is a first year player, allthough he is doing a good job when his number is called he doesn't have the experiance either. What more can you ask for as far as a back catching the ball out of the ball field as Josh Sanders does.

I don't think red bunch was talking about Clint...I have a few ideas who, but I will reserve comment for the time being.

I know im gonna take a lickin for this but how many quarterbacks in the past few years have come through Corbin with such great potential as freshmen or sophomores, but just never seem to get much better. I think that can be a definite reflection of the coaching situation. Something is wrong when a quarterback comes in and plays as good or better his freshmen or sophomore year as they do their senior year. This does not necessarily pertain to Cashen.

I have to agree with you, so I'll take my beating from the internet security staff when you do.

Corbin 35

Garrard 12

Chant, your message is inspirational and you make your points well. I would like to further discuss a few points you have made:

True these are the same coaches who took a team to the state finals. However, I didn't feel like great coaching was the biggest reason that landed the 02 Redhounds in Louisville. I thought it had to do with a Stud in the backfield, supported by some kids who played thier guts out in the post season. If you will remember, weather played into our favor each week, as sloppy fields neutralized a very fast Bardstown and Larue Co. team. Everything fell into place until we got to Cardinal Stadium. Notice I didn't say the coaching was bad. It was in fact solid. just nothing extraordinary in my mind.

Also true that these coaches are doing nothing different now than when they were winning 10 ballgames. After 2 regular seasons barely floating at .500, isn't it time to look for a better way?

The last point I want to make concerns moral victories. Yes we were 6 points from being an 8 win team, but what does that matter? A loss is a loss! For the Corbin Redhounds I know, that has never been a accepted measure of performance. I surely hope this isn't how we are beginning to measure success in our football program. Like you said before, state titles should always be the goal.

So you are saying that coaching didn't play a big part in teaching 'some' kids how to play the game around the one and only stud? Agreed the Lawson was a huge part of the success.

True

Read the bolded and underlined part. Lawson was the horse headed for Louisville and to thier credit, they rode him there in fashion. I think most would agree that without him in the backfield, Corbin would have not made it to the big dance.

Redhounds pound the Garnet and Gold from Lancaster; Stonebreaker's stomach will be turning trying to envision playing this team again next week in the 1st round:

Corbin 42

Garrard Co. 6

It has been a disappointing season but the middle school programs are really looking good. Corbin 38 Garrard 12.

Since this game has no bearing on playoff seeding and since they're playing each other again in 7 days, why would either team treat this as much more than a glorified scrimmage? In my opinion, this is a major flaw in the intra-district playoff system.

Of course you want to win the game, but don't you also want to prevent (1.) showing too much of your hand to a team you're facing in an elimination game the next week and (2.) losing a starter to injury that would force him to miss next week?

I know no one wants to make a farce of the game, but if I were coaching I can't imagine I'd run much besides basic running plays, and I know I wouldn't leave a starter on the field past halftime. Thoughts?

I think that Corbin will keep their starters in until Coach Jewell feels that the game is in hand, that is assuming that the score ever gets to that point.

Corbin 20 - Garrard 7

That's why, in my opinion, I wouldn't be surprised to see a tight, close game. Note: I didn't say a good game!

Corbin will win tonight, but it will likely be a bigger margin next week.

The point about the close games is young teams tend to find a way to win when it is on the line. I think the youth has played a major factor...much more than "inept" coaching. I said they didn't do anything different in that the technique, terminology, and approach to the game are the same. Anyone with eyes can see that we are throwing for 250 a game these days rather than running it for 250...but the offense is flexible enough, given flexible personel they could easily switch from power to air-raid at the drop of a hat and have a more balanced approach in the future.
