School Graduation - started with a prayer

School athletic event - started with a prayer

School end of game team huddle - ended with a prayer

Happens everywhere, its only an issue when someone wants it to be an issue.

It's already been a legal issue . Team prayers have been addressed in the courts.

If I am not mistaken school athletic events can have prayer as long as it is led by a student. Not sure how it works for graduation but I am sure it is allowed.

You are correct. It is only an issue when someone wants it to be an issue. I am 100% on board with separation of the church and state but I don’t have a problem with praying at schools or sporting events as long as all religions are allowed the same respect.

In a perfect world we would live up to our talk about being equal . But...

From the legal standpoint it doesn't matter that a coach would allow other religions being preached. I'd have no issue with the players throwing out a "Praise Jesus" or reciting a good ol' "Hail Mary."

Just can't be the person in charge.

Kind of off topic but can you be a Catholic and not a Christian? The couple of times you mention Catholicism you refer to it as if it’s not Christian. Earlier in the post you put Catholic in a list with being Jewish when comparing it to being Christian.

Depends on how he was categorizing the faiths? Was he putting Christian church, Catholic church and other religions believing in the Holy Trinity, under the umbrella of Christianity? And not meaning the specific Christian Church?

No, if you are Catholic, you are a member of Christianity. I think that was his intent.

I meant it as a "subset" of Christianity b/c not all Christians would be down with some Catholic teachings if a coach started reciting them.

The only way this is an issue is if someone at the school makes it one. I wouldn’t be surprised if every kid on the team is in FCA.

There’s a lot more Christianity in public schools than someone from the outside may think.

So it is ok if it fits your agenda. Doesn't't matter what the Constitution says. Hypocrisy. On a personal level, I could care less, on a legal level, I do not think it is ok to break the law.

What law was broken?

What law was broken?

Where did I say he broke the law? I was talking about adults leading prayer, that's all.

No, exactly what you said," On a legal level, I do not think it is ok to break the law."

100% legal to talk about faith with kids.

It seems like we are jumping to conclusions about the religious make up of the players he was referring to.

He never said he pulls out a Bible and reads from it. He said we use biblical analogies...no different than pulling something from the works of say Maya Angelou or MLk...

...and where did I say the coach did anything illegal. I simply said it is not ok to break the law. So is it ok to break the law. I just bet if he had said that Allah assisted in this win, we would have outrage.

We are going to get political if I say more. I will drop it. Hypocrisy exists especially with Christians and I am a practicing Christian.

Completely disagree, if he had said Allah, it wouldn’t have been a story

From a legal standpoint I don't think the lack of a bible matters. Courts have been pretty consistent on this issue.
