Ballard looked like they had never ever EVER seen a zone defense.

Rocks defense was on point tonight and Justin Powell played lights out. Near perfect game for the Rocks.

My game ball would go to Justin Powell for Trinity for the way he handled Ballard's pressure as the primary ball handler. T knocked down their good looks and if I'm not mistaken decisively out rebounded B (at least until the 4th quarter). I think this is T's 5th regional championship in the last 15 years.

That is absolutely insane.

Trinity looked really good tonight. They stayed out of foul trouble for the most part (Powell and Turnier each picked up their foul in the third quarter, but it was not an issue). Ballard shot 42% from the field. The final score is a little misleading - games wasn't that close.

Blind draws if that is how it is done is just plain stupid. All it does is cheat the fans out of seeing the better games down the line at the tournament. The tournament needs to be seeded and should have been for years now. Not shocked that the Rocks won, but how much they won by is a shocker.

This may be petty but how sad is it the kids that win the 6th and 7th region, both boys and girls, don't get to cut down the nets? They give the winning team a new net but it isn't even close to the same. There's really no excuse now that they are playing the 4 championship games over 4 nights with no double headers. No reason the nets can't be cut and then replaced.

I have always thought that cutting down the nets before anything other than the final game of the season is not good. That is not the top of the mountain. Do you cut down nets for district championships? I would hope (and even bet) that Cov Cath did not cut down nets after their regional title even if they were allowed to. I could be wrong though. If I am CC coach I say, "This is not the prize boys... this is not the prize. We have to earn the right to cut down the nets at Rupp."

Really gets me in the NCAA regionals. You win 4 games, 2 of which are usually against so-so opponents and you cut down nets? You are still two wins away from a title. Three of the four net cutters are not going to be champions. Cutting down the nets should be ULTRA special.

To the topic: I've seen T about 7 times this year and that was about as good as I have seen them play. And that is the first time I have EVER seen a Trinity team play a 2-3 zone for the ENTIRE game - I mean they did not come out of it for one second. Makes you wonder how much zone they might try to throw at Scott Co.?

Maybe Ballard should rethink not playing Trinity in the regular season. They didn't meet in any tournaments this year.
