Lloyd vs. Newport

Featured Replies

With the 3 way tie breaker system, the head to head game does not matter. It comes down to points, for the number of wins of the opponents you have beaten(can't be involved in the tie breaker either, so Spencer can't count Newport). I still say Newport would host Spencer if they beat Lloyd(which is a big if!!)

If Newport wins your right it is a 3-way tie. Spencer beats Newport in the tie breaker because they lost to Spencer. Newport would be on the road to Spencer and Lloyd goes back to Mercer.

That doesnt sound right. I dont think thats how the tie breaker goes. Doesnt it go by some kinda points about who you beat in your non district schedule? I dont think Spencer beating Newport has anything to do with giving them the tie breaker.

This is from the KHSAA hand book. In our case Spencer beat Newport, Lloyd beat Spencer and Newport hypothetically beats Lloyd.

b) TIE-BREAKER (more than two teams). Should three or

more teams tie for the a district position based upon

the win-loss record, the position shall be determined

by the following:

i) If one of the teams has defeated each of the other

teams tied in games contested between them, that

team shall be declared to hold the highest position,

and the winner of the game between the remaining

teams (if less than four) shall be declared the second

highest position. In the event of more than three

teams being tied, where one has defeated each

of the tied teams, that team shall be declared the

highest position, and the tie-breaking procedure shall

be re-applied for the remaining tied teams.

ii) If the tie remains, each team tied for the position shall

receive one point for each game won by any four of

their defeated opponents in all games, except for the

games played between any two of the tied teams

Spencer can come up with more points than Newport.

I just went back and re-added Newport and Spencers points. I was wrong!!!! Newport beat

W Hills-2pts

Dayton-5pts

Ludlow-3pts

Grant-3pts

Henry-3pts

N Oldham-0pts

The top 4 give you 13pts

Spencer beat

Clinton-4pts

Gallatin-4pts

Jackson-2pts

Henry-2pts

N Oldham-0pts

The top 4 give you 12pts.

Im sorry I stand corrected! (I think originally I gave Spencer a W over KCD)

I just looked at Newport and Spencers beaten opponets games for this Friday.

If all of Newports beaten opponets win Newport would get 5 more pts.

Of all of Spencers beaten opponets only Henry and N Oldham have games ( and they play each other) left. This would also benefit Newport so there is no way Spencer can oust Newport in a tie.

BUTif Lloyd beats Newport and Spencer pulls the upset over Mercer...Mercer, Spencer and Lloyd are tied and it ends up Mercer, Spencer,Lloyd and Newport. Not that this is likely..but it COULD happen. I guess we have to play it out before it is all said and done!:thumb:

The way I undestand the ruling is the pts. are used to break a 3 way tie for 2nd and than for 3rd you look at head to head between the 2 other schools.

I think this is the rule if there is a 3 way tie for 1st.I think it's different for a 3 way tie for 2nd.I may be wrong.

I could be wrong but I think Im right.

Not the case here each has beaten the other Newport over Lloyd, Lloyd over Spencer and Spencer over Newport.

Lloyd has been in this situation a couple of times. Until we play Friday to see who wins this is all a moot point anyway.

this is a tough one to call. My gut says Newport, but my heart is with Lloyd.

My brain says this will probably be an ugly game on a wet, nasty field.

I think if Lloyd can get Charles Johnson in the game early (and we'll know pretty quickly if he's into it or not) then they can win.

I'll go with my heart and say:

Lloyd 20

Newport 19

but my gut is already feeling a little queezy!!:creepy:

As long as Newport wins on Friday against Lloyd, the district would end up like this:

1st - Mercer Co.

2nd - Newport

3rd - Spencer

4th - Lloyd

So the first week of playoffs would be:

Lloyd at Mercer Co.

Spencer Co. at Newport.

This looks like it will be the case and then Newport will be able to avenge their regular season loss to Spencer Co and put up a big number on them. I think the Wildcats looked past Spencer Co. in the regualr season, but rest a sure they won't make the same mistake twice.

Thanks for researching all of that for us LMHS.

Npt's defense has played well all year. The offense is starting to come around.

Npt. 21-7

I think this is the rule if there is a 3 way tie for 1st.I think it's different for a 3 way tie for 2nd.I may be wrong.

Why would they have a different rule for 2nd place? LMHS has it right.

NO.

If Mercer and Lloyd win:

Newport at Mercer and Spencer at Lloyd in week 1.

If Mercer and Newport win:

Lloyd at Mercer and Newport at Spencer in week 1.

If Spencer and Lloyd win:

Newport at Mercer and Lloyd at Spencer in week 1.

If Spencer and Newport win:

Lloyd at Spencer and Newport at Mercer in week 1.

Hope this takes care of all the if and buts.
