Mayfield 22 Fulton City 8

Final...

This game was closer than alot would have thought..FC actually led 8-0 early in the game on a 65 yard fumble return...There offense never really threatened until late in the 4th qtr but was turned back by the Cards. There defense played well the whole game and was aided by a couple of Cardinal miscues deep in FC territory. The Cards defense was solid, but the offense struggled with penalties, fumbles, interceptions, etc...

2nd week in a row that Mayfield fails to show up, 6 first half fumbles and 9 penalities. Fulton played a heck of a game a deserve alot of credit for playing Mayfield til the end. The Cards defense saved a otherwise terrible showing by the Cards. Fulton was held to 38 yards on the night rushing. Their lone score was a 865 yard fumble recovered and ran back in the first half to give them the early lead

Ugly, but still a W. Sounds an awful lot like Bardstown-KCD tonight. Congrats on the win.

The turnover problem has to be a concern for Mayfield ... two weeks in a row they have constantly shot themselves in the foot. Sometime, it will catch up with them.

Hearsay...I respect your thoughts and opinions....so did the Tigers get some late scores as taking a look at the score...and I know that scores can be deceiving...but how bad did the Tigers play by winning 51-15...just curious.

Good luck to you and the Tigers next week againt Bethlehem...that should be a great contest.

Hope to see you the day after Turkey Day for a rematch of last years great game.

I 100% agree....the turnovers and penalties are gonna be the downfall to this Cardinal team. They can be a very solid team if they take care of their business; as they have been their toughest opponent than any of the other teams lining up against them. Here's that they get it corrected by next week and for sure in two weeks when the second season starts.

I heard Coach Mo say in his pregame interview that fumbles had only been a problem in 2 games, Graves and Murray High. I think he can now add FC game to that list. Usually by now, Mayfield is playing well, and demolishing opponents in their district. They hold on to the ball against FC, and it's more like 35 or 40 to nothing. I don't think FC ever got close to scoring until the closing seconds. Bulldogs have some good athletes, but they still have some things to learn 'bout football.

One observation is that the turnover epedimic occurs mostly when we revert to the no huddle offense. I have been a proponet of this since its introduction at the Graves game, 28-0 tail whipping where Mayfield had 7 turnovers. In theory this is a great idea, in reality we seem to loose rythem in our offense and that trend has been consistent in every game we have deployed this system except the Fulton County game and Fulton County was just so bad that it made no difference what we did we were gonna look good. Anybody else notice this or agree or disagree?

The turnovers this week were from center to QB exchange except for the hard hit on Adam on the goal line. I really don't know what the problem is and I don't think it had anything to do with the no huddle. The no huddle had nothing to do with Murrell fumbling twice last week because he fumbled after the line of scrimmage.

I will be the first to say I thought this game would be a lot worse than the final scoreboard showed, and hats off to Fulton City. I am not suprised by how the Cardinal defense held Fulton City to so few yards, that is nothing new, but the biggest concern I would have if I were Mayfield, is only tallying 131 rushing yards on offense (and 244 total)... How many yards came off of the Mayfield HB pass for the TD?

Bug the halfback pass was good for 40 yards, the fumble problem is huge but when we didnt fumble we killed ourselves with back breaking penalities, combine the 2 and it managed to kill most of our drives. We are stopping ourselves much more so than Fulton was stopping us. I still say we somehow or another loose our rythem in the no huddle as crazy as it sounds

Why is Mayfield going to a no-huddle?

Why is Mayfield going to a no-huddle?

Good question....They looked like they could move the ball at will against Hopkinsville earlier in the year and the following week, it looked like a chinese fire drill against Graves....Sorry, but, I don't support it at all....

Why is Mayfield going to a no-huddle?

The reason for the no-huddle is to not speed up the game, but for the Mayfield coaching staff to see what kind of scheme the defense lines up against the Cardinals and then call the play accordingly. It's intent is to avoid the "wrong-call against the wrong defense" philosophy but I agree that sometimes it does appear that it takes us out of our rhythm offensively...but the no huddle is still not an excuse for the center to quarterback exchange that has plaqued Mayfield the past two weeks. I am not sure if we are pulling out to early or if the center is not getting the ball all the way up to our quarterback, but either way we have to find a way to avoid shooting ourselves in the foot. We have been our own worst enemy all season with turnovers and penalties...if you go back to our two losses against Marshall and Graves Counties we hurt ourselves more with "unforced" turnovers and penalites than anything those two teams did to us. I am encouraged by the way the defense has stepped up and become the defense we all thought we would see all season long...now if we can only shore up the penalites and turnovers then we can make a long run in the playoffs and maybe even get back to the title game...but we won't if we continue to play like we have the past two weeks as we will be able to get by the first few opponents and maybe even make it to the sub-state game, but would get killed right now by either Danville, Bardstown, Bethlehem, or now you have to include Frankfort in the discussion after what they did to Danville last night. Good thing is that there is still time to correct things and get the momentum going into the playoffs...and that this Cardinal team has still yet to play their best ball of the season and hopefully that will come in the next few weeks during playoff time.
