I haven't really paid attention to the playoff race, what will it take for Estill to make the playoffs?

Great game tonight Estill's defense dominated, and the double wing looked great. Good to see our boys get another win, and send our seniors out with one on their last home game at Hoover Niece Field.

Estill has been eliminated from playoff contention. The 1st 3 spots are Russell, Fleming, and West. The final spot has to be either East or Morgan.

How is Morgan in contention but not Estill?

Morgan has 3 district losses, 4 if they lost tonight. East has 3, if Morgan beats East they have 4 as does Estill and Morgan. It then goes to a 3-way tiebreaker which is # of wins by non-district opponents that you have beaten. Estill hasn't beaten anyone outside of the district which means they are eliminated.. The only way Morgan can get in is if they beat East and it is a 2 way tie and Morgan wins the tiebreaker which is head to head. For EC it is simple, win and you are in.

The best Estill County can hope for is to finish 3-4 in the district, by virtue of beating Powell County next week. Then they would have to hope for Morgan County to beat East Carter so that both schools would finish 3-4 in the district.

 

Then there would be a three-way tie between East, Estill and Morgan. They tiebreaker would most likely put East Carter in the postseason. I could go further in depth, but it can get complicated.

 

The team that was hurt most by Estill's win tonight was Morgan County. If Estill had lost, next week's Morgan County-East Carter game would have been a defacto play-in game. Now Morgan County has to beat East Carter and hope that Powell knocks off Estill. Its not a sure thing, but a playoff berth looks to be in the works for East Carter.

Estill will beat Powell for their 3rd win next week. IF Morgan beats East, then Estill, East, and Morgan will tie with 3 wins. It then goes to teams they've beaten non-district and the number of wins those teams have. Morgan and Estill have 0 I believe, and I really think East should get the 4th slot since they have beaten a non-district opponent, who ultimately has wins vs. other teams.

 

Morgan Co. would have been in had West Carter beaten Estill and then Morgan beat East next week. Morgan and East would tie with 3 district wins, and the head-head would go to Morgan since they just beat East....that was the only scenario it could have still worked.

Before the season started I thought Estill would be in the playoffs this season...I was surprised with their slow start and it looks like they went back to what works and they sure do run it well. Congrats to Estill Co.
