A bunch of good players have been named. The best player not named in any of these top 10 lists is Victor Moses, a 6'4"/6'5" junior at Henry Clay. It is amazing to me that he is flying under the radar on some of these top 10 lists.

 

I don't have to talk him up.......his performance this season will take care of that. I think he is a top 10 player regardless of class in the state of Kentucky.

I believe more so, flying under the radar because Dunnaway, Miller, Bowman and Minnifield all played well at times, along with Moses. Not taking anything away from him but different nights, some had big games while others were keyed on.

 

Any team in the state, would like to have a talent like Moses....:thumb:

Can't believe Preston Knowles of GRC is not mentioned. If you have not seen him play the 5/3 would be a good time to see him and many of the players that are mentioned show who should be in the top 10.

What grade is the Crawford kid from Corbin in?

What is it that you have against Nky players? You are from this area right? And you dont at least have Austin Hill in your second tier?

 

I have nothing against Nky players. IMO: My list has the 15 best players in the state. If I would extend my list out to the 25 best, then I would include Hill and Jacobs.

8) VanHoose from Russell, is an excellent shooter and is near 6'-2" or 3" but not as laterally quick to create his own shot, as some others.

It's a darn good thing there are some legit scouts out there doing reports and some other rankings that are done by committees. The only thing that matters is that the true measure of a kids talent and work ethics are the ones taking visits, getting offers, and signing. These list are more about popularity.

I will list my top ten, based on their impact to their teams this year, Potential is very hard to quantify, and many people never reach their full potential, too many external factors to weigh, and hard to tell if a person has the work ethic to ever reach it, for that reason, I'm not including Brooks and Hopson , Miller and Mackey as high as others, because they are getting rated based on "future" potential and the great bodies, I'm basing my list on who has proven they are prime time players NOW, Pettigrew is clear cut #1, you can argue the other positions and jumble them about anyway you want

 

1. Pettigrew Absolute warrior, doesn't have the great body Brooks has but he just beats you, and is someone you can count on to get his every night

2. thru 5 (tie)Proffitt great competitor, has state championship ring as a sophomore

proven performer will likely sign with Notre Dame

VanHoose Has shown he can score on anyone in the country, as good as basketball IQ as anyone in the state, will likely get 100+ 3 pointers this season after hitting 87 last year. Signed with Evansville

Walls another great competitor you can count on for great effort every night

Will play d-1 somewhere

 

6.Miller Athletic and strong, can play multiple positions, will become more assertive as he matures, will be a strong Mr Basketball candidate-- next year

7. Beckham strong and athletic, needs to improve on his 3 pointer signed with IUPUI

8. Brooks stock with colleges rising fast, big time dunker, needs to show he can put up the big numbers with the defense concentrating on him

9 Mackey Very talented, Very Athletic another one that will do nothing but get better

10. Anderson clutch shooter, hard nosed player, good basketball IQ

I didn't know this was a homework test but EB asked for our opinions, based on several things and I listed mine. Doesn't mean I'm correct.

I have never seen the Hopson kid play so that is why he is not in my top 10.

It does not matter if you have seen Hopson or not. Most people on the boards have not seen him. Most don't even know that he was a part-time starter last year and averaged 12 points and 6 boards per game. I know that some stories have him at 14 points, but according to the info I got from a scout and recruiter it was 12 points per game. Not once did I see anyone on BGP mention Hopson until this past summer. Now he is writing his own ticket.

 

Jeff Brooks is another one. Brooks was very seledom mentioned last year in the top 40 even. Now he is flying out every weekend and meeting D1 coaches at the major programs. He averaged just over double figures at 11 points per game.

 

According to the scouting services I talk to regularly there are some underclassman making their names known that no one is mentioning on these post, but next year you will be jumping the bandwagon claiming to know Kentucky's talent after the kids have starting getting offers and consideration from D1 or D2 colleges.

 

I don't claim to know it all and I don't, but as far as I can tell most of the rankings is are just people following a loss-leader. It's interesting enough to sit back and watch some of the players get mention and never see the hardwood after they graduate, while other kids never whispered about find themselves getting a free-ride and in some cases playing in front of 15,000+ in college. Interesting stuff don't you think?

 

And one more point, you don't have to average 20 points per game to sign for the big boys. Take a look at UL and UK's roster. I am curious how many of those averaged 20 plus their senior years out of high school. I think it will surprise some.

This list looks good to me. The only real change is Id probably have Mack in the top 10.
