School Shooting At Marshall County High School

Featured Replies

So there is no way a student can walk off of the streets into one of the auxiliary buildings? They have to go through the main building?

Not if school protocol is followed.

If the shooter has a long range rifle the fence wont matter, we can what if this to death, but its pretty clear that a life isnt worth that much to most.

Neither will your metal detector.

Bottom line is that if someone is willing to die to kill or harm others they can find a way to do it, with guns, knives, bombs or whatever...they will find a way if they value their own lives to begin with.

Well if everyone followed the rules we'd never have incidents like this, to begin with.

Shooters, by definition, don't follow protocol. Seems like if you have multiple buildings, you would need a metal detector at all entrances to each building, along with people to man them. But I'm not sure. Maybe @Bengal Maniac can fill us in on how this works with the schools that he mentioned.

If the staff follows protocol. Doors are locked and shooter would have to be permitted entrance.

Sandy Hook was locked down I believe, they buzzed him in as it was someone they were familiar with.

The schools were very secure with door except the entrance basically inaccessible. One to two detectors.

Newtown shooter shot the glass out to enter the school.

Security measures are intended to stop these attacks, but at the very least they provide a warning.

No campuses with multiple buildings?

The shooter in Sandy Hook shot the glass doors out at the entrance. There was a meeting in the office conference room. The principal and counselor heard the noise and came running out. He shot and killed them both. He went down the hall tried the first classroom door it was locked, he kept moving. He tried the second classroom door it was locked he kept moving. He tried the third classroom door it was open, he went in and saw the students hunkered is a closet area and starting firing and that is where he killed all of the students.

This was told to me by the Kentucky State Police in active shooter training last January I attended.

They stated that there has ever been an adult or student shot/killed behind a locked classroom door.

Classroom teachers should keep their classroom doors locked at all times, not just during lockdowns.

Yes and they had detectors in each.

BENTON, KY - Another security measure goes into place at Marshall County High School on Tuesday.

According to a statement from the school district, metal detector wands will be used to check each student as they walk through one of four entrances used each morning.
