UCF AD Says they will hang a banner claiming the national championship and pay the coaching staff the bonuses written into their contracts if they would win a national championship.

 

I for one live this move. I wish Utah would’ve had the guts to do this back when they went undefeated. The NCAA DI championship has been a farce since day one. Even though it has gotten way closer 100% legitimacy it’s still not a perfect set up. I agree with Everyone saying UCF doesn’t run the table in a major conference but how many grams do? I just hate the fact that BY RULE they weren’t even allowed to compete in a playoff.

Given the fact of the number of teams who run the table each year I could say yes to that question if there were an 8 team playoff. Given there is only a four team playoff I can’t say yes 100%. We also have what we call the eyeball test and I did actually watch UCF twice this year. I thought they were very efficient on offense. I doubt they keep up with Georgia or OU or move the ball well against Bama but I think they could’ve beat Clemson. I mean they beat Auburn who beat down Alabama and Georgia.

Where was all the support for UCF before the 4 teams were announced. All the discussion I heard were between Bama, Ohio State, and USC.

 

All this garbage about UCF being National Champs just smells like sour grapes to me from the outside conferences not playing Monday Night.

 

I don’t recall any point within this season that UCF beat neither Bama or Georgia.

I know I might be in the minority, but I think this needs to be a 16 team brackets playoffs just like the rest of the football divisions. Conference Champions and at-large teams (like UCF that didn't make it this year) and let them battle it our with one team remaining. Winner takes all.

I suppose what gets my goat is the fact that teams outside the "Power 5", by RULE ARE NOT even allowed to think about playing for a chance at the title regardless of strength of schedule. Even if UCF had the #1 SOS they would not have gotten in. If it wasnt Alabama then it would've been Ohio State.

We'll always have this discussion. If it gets bumped to 8, we'll debate who should be teams 7 & 8, and teams 9 & 10 will complain they were deserving.

 

It happens every year with the NCAA tournament in basketball.

 

Bottom line is since the playoffs have started, the best team has won the title each year. Can't ask for anything more.

I think they've taught us that they try to get the best 4 teams but it's still imperfect because there are usually 6 really good teams and only 4 spots. Some play in games would be nice. Top two teams are in, 4 more teams play to advance

You're not alone. Taking the 10 conference champions and 6 at-large, would eliminate the majority of "which conference is better" or "whose schedule is better" crap that's decided off the field. I mean, if someone had decided at the beginning of the year that UCF was going to have a heck of team, and ranked them #1 to start the year...are you telling me they would've fallen out of the top 4 going undefeated? Heck no.

 

There should be one simple rule for the playoffs...win, and get in.

I was in Jacksonville for the Taxslayer Bowl. I went to a shop that was set-up to sell overpriced merchandise for the bowl game. As I was looking the manager of the shop approached me and asked if I would answer a few questions he had. I agreed. He said he has worked merchandising for various bowl games for over 20 years. He asked how far I was willing to travel for a bowl game, I said if I can't drive it I won't be going because plane tickets are to expensive. Long and short of our conversation is that many of the bowl games are seeing much lower attendance since the inception of the playoff, both 2 and 4 team. He agreed that there are to many bowl games and that other then the 2 semifinals there is little interest from casual fans. Take this for what it's worth but he said the folks that are in the next tier down of games from the big four (Rose, Sugar, Fiesta and Orange) want to see the playoff expanded so that their bowl games can be included. If the administrations think there's a way to make more money it will happen eventually.
