Doubtful. In 2011 when they brought Lewis back the attendance was horrible even though they were doing well. When they brought Lewis back all kinds of people didn't renew tickets. It took until 2013 to truly get fans back there. The mass exodus of season ticket holders will be even more drastic now.

This certainly cements another year of me not attending a Bengals home game. I may watch, certainly Will listen on the radio (I’m old school) but will not cross that river to donate money to Mikey Boy. I,for the life of me can’t understand people purchasing season tickets year after year. One for all the crap that comes along with the tickets and two the blatant mediocrity from the ownership. They don’t even try to hide it and people keep donating time and money.

 

Would you continue to shop at say Kroger if half or more of your groceries were consistently stale or rotten? And even more if Kroger kept feeding you the same line every time you complained? Can’t understand but to each his own

 

Well, I will be purchasing for the 38th year and like most things, I could care less why people think I would or wouldn't. Or how we spend our $$.

 

I do beause I am a diehard FAN and love the game day atmosphere at the stadium. In fact, I asked the lovely lady if she still wanted to go or should I drop her ticket. She emphatically said no, she loves the game day experience also. We also have Broadway Acrosss America tix, take two to three really nice trips a year (usually one a Bengals away game, this past year Green Bay), etc. Feel blessed to have the disposable income to do those things.

 

Regardless on how frustrated I get with the Bengals, it is in my blood, I will always do it as long as they are in Cincy.

 

Grocery shopping is not enterainment, not a comparison to me. Gotta eat.

 

I do understand how people would not go see them or spend $$ on them or anything they don't like.

If the Bengals start the season with 3 or 4 straight wins, PBS will start filling up again pretty quickly. Winning fixes attendance problems pretty quickly.

Winning does cure all. However even though the 2011 team was a playoff team, it didn't cure all for that season. It took local places like Krogers buying tickets to even get to the 49,000 average they had. Plus don't forget the blackout rule was still in effect. So if people wanted to see them, they had to go to the games. It took a full season of seeing them be a playoff team, to get them to come back the next season.

2010- 60,300

2011- 49,251 (First year after Lewis was extended. A playoff team, but last in attendace. The next closest team averaged 7,000 more a game)

2012- 61,188

2013- 63,297

2014- 60,703

As you see the fan base was completely fed up the last time they brought Marvin back after his contract was up. The 2010 was even worse than this years team, and that team still averaged 7,000 more a game than this year before dropping down. They were at 60 thousand fans in 2010 for a 4 and 10 team, and they bring Marvin back and they drop to 49,000 even though it ended up a playoff team. Fans were already fed up with the team after this season, and now them bringing Marvin back. Will lead to thousands more now renewing season tickets like after the 2010 season. Then as I mentioned without the blackout rule being in place. If only 49,000 came in 2011 when it was a playoff team. I think its very reasonable to think that average will be around 44,000 next year even if the team is good. Which would be ten thousand less than this year a game.

Agreed! The attendance is going to be bad even if the team does better than expected, because they are going to lose thousands of season ticket holders.

They made the playoffs in 2011, but they limped in. Let's not act like they were world beaters. They were 9-7 (5-5 after the Bye) got swept by both Pittsburgh and Baltimore, and were the six seed. Not exactly a team to get excited for when arguing attendance.

As mentioned and the blackout rule was still in place, which would get some fans to go to the games to see them. The blackout rule is no longer in effect. So with the amount of season ticket holders they are probably about to lose, and knowing they can watch them on tv even if they are good. Next years attendance is going to be bad. I truly hope you are right. However even though 9 and 7 wasn't great. It was an exciting team to watch when you had a rookie like AJ Green. Dalton at the time as a rookie with no off season looked like he could end up being a real good one. Yet even though with all that, people still didn't come. I hope you are right though. I just think it will take a whole year again to truly get people back.

People say the Bengals job wouldn't be attractive. However if they ever do move on from Marvin. Imo it should be the most attractive job in the NFL. No other coaching job would you have so much security. You don't even have to win at the highest rate to keep your job. No need to worry about your job here.
