October 16, 200619 yr Piniella to be announced Monday or Tuesday:thumb: Piniella appears to be choice of GM Hendry Lou Piniella's name surfaced as a candidate to manage the Cubs in Houston about the Fourth of July, when Dusty Baker was rumored to be on the firing line. Nearly 31/2 months later, Piniella finally appears ready to step in. Now that Piniella's commitment to Fox Sports is over and Cubs general manager Jim Hendry has completed his search, the announcement of Piniella as the next manager could come Monday or Tuesday, barring any last-minute snag in the process. Hendry is expected to get a 15 to 20 percent budget increase in 2007 from higher revenue from the bleacher expansion and one of the highest-priced tickets in baseball. October 16, 200619 yr Just not a fan, of Pinella's tirades. I do believe he's won nearly 1,500 games but not my choice, to lead a franchise. Time will tell, if he's a good fit for the Cubs.

Dusty's a good coach. And he put himself in a position where the expectations were too high. It didn't work out. I don't see Piniella doing much better. Maybe he will.
