D3 Championship --- Dec. 15

Two perennial participants will play for the D3 championship next Friday. Mount Union will oppose Mary Hardin-Baylor. In the semi-finals yesterday, Mt. Union beat the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 43-40, and Mary Hardin-Baylor beat Brockport,24-0.

That will be a titanic battle, Mount Union has been dominant now for how long....forever, and Mary Hardin-Baylor has been a national player for the last several years. I think it is on ESPN2 or 3, looking forward to seeing these two teams square up.

Has anyone on BGP ever been to the D3 championship game? It isn't too far from here to Salem. I've always thought it would be a cool event to attend.

I haven't gone myself, but I've got 3 cousins who've gone down there multiple times. But, they're die-hard Mt. Union fans. In all the times they've gone down, I don't think they've done anything other than just go to the game.

This is the last year the bowl is in Salem, at least for the foreseeable future. Next year and in 2019, the Stagg Bowl will be in Shenandoah, Texas, just outside Houston. In 2020 and 2021 it will be held in Canton, at the Hall of Fame stadium.

Mount Union will be making their 20th appearance in the championship game since 1992. They've won 12 of them.

 

Mary Harding-Baylor knocked off Mount Union in the semifinals last year.

 

I have an event I have to attend, tomorrow night, or I'd be all over this game. If we can bail early, I may still be able to catch the second half.

I hadn't heard that. Wow, that'll practically be a home game for Mt. Union, should they make it. Maybe a 20 minute drive?

I read that same thing yesterday, hate to say it, but I thought the Championship game should be in a better climate, lets say a reward for your outstanding year...no offense but Canton, OH in mid December could be grueling.

I have to correct myself from an earlier post, I thought Mary Hardin-Baylor was just recently good, looked up their record last night, they have been really good for the past 20 years. Looking forward to watching the game tonight.

To be fair to Canton, the D3 championship has been in Salem, Virginia for about 25 years and the weather is usually pretty poor there too.
