Dixie Heights 31 Holmes 6

Featured Replies

Alot of people were doubting Dixie after those initial three games with HHS, CC, and Beechwood. I think playing the big competion has made them a better team. Good luck in the playoffs!

Some people may still have their doubts:laugh:

I think Holmes biggest problem is they have NO passing game. When you don't have a go to receiver that you can rely on it makes it very hard to mix up the playbook which allows teams to stack the box and send blitzes every which way.

Congrats to Dixie. Although I wasn't there it sounds like they are still making unforced errors. This will need to be cut down in order to go deep in the playoffs and hopefully they will fix the problem. Good luck in the remaining 2 battles of the regular season. Just curious, did James Miller get shut down?

For the most part, yes, but Holmes did have 197 on the ground.

What about Palmer (#1?)? Does he not have good hands? He seems to have good size and athletic ability.

In my mind he is inconsistent. He dropped a game winning td as time expired against SK with nobody within 20 yards of him (some say he would have not been able to stay in bounds to run the last 15 yards).

I think losing Hill really hurt them and their passing game.

I don't like a one dimensional team, but these guys might change your opinion if they had a better line. They were a block away from making it a tighter game all night. They were much more disciplined than in the past, and didn't let down IMO till after it was 31-6, which most any team would. If they get some blocking down there, they will be a pretty good football team in the future. I like what the coach's have instilled in their team. Now if they can only get some beef to push people around.

We've had every reciever on our team drop a TD pass this season that would have changed the game dramatically. But then, they also are doing some great things too. I prefer to define them by their triumphs. Everybody makes mistakes. Most learn from them if given the chance.

That was just one example of his inconsistency, I know everyone drops balls, but he is not playing consistant right now.

Speaking of that, I thought it was an automatic ejection if you throw a punch (and especially if you land it)?

I don't make excuses for losses and as I said in the prediction thread special teams and turnovers would be one of the determining factors. Holmes averaged starting field position was somewhere around their own 25-30 yard line. On the other hand there was at leat 4-5 or five drives where the colonels started inside Holmes territory, Inside Holmes 30 three times and inside the 50 two more times. Dixie worked with a short field all night, my hats off to the colonels they got it done tonight. There D is tough and should help them win some playoff games. Holmes was missing two o-lineman, they lost Palmer in the game, they lost one inside d-tackle, their d-end played both ways all night, Duran came in with a badly bruised back and Dixie took every advantage of a holmes miscue's and won fair and square. Holmes is not a deep enough team to lose 7 starters in two weeks and replace them with equal players. Good luck to both teams the rest of the year, we both have two tough games left.

The bottom line is Dixie's o-line and d-line dominated the line of scrimmage and had very short fields to work with because of poor punting, turnover or penalties. Dixie got the job done and put Holmes away in the second half. Good luck to the Red Colonels as they march to the playoffs.

Which o lineman were missing and who else got hurt?

Palmer is more of a runningback than receiver. As an 8th grader and freshman he played fullback and did very well. Also it doesn't hurt that he is VERY fast. His problem IMO is confidence. If he gets down on himself he has trouble staying positive. He is definetly one of the best players in NKY when he wants to be. Someone just needs to instill in him that he can't let one play get him down.

Size, and athletic ability are definetly there. Attitude isn't right now.
