Update: Valdosta High School....

Featured Replies

On whether the offer was made or not, if I remember correctly, it depended on who you asked, didn't it?

I read somewhere that Hoover's (Alabama) coach turned down the job as well.

I think Valdosta High School is #1 in the nation in all-time wins.

If I remember correctly, the Valdosta newspaper identified three finalists ... Beatty wasn't one of those named.

Well I got it from a number of actual Valdosta Boosters of the team live, in person, face to face. I'll stick with my story rather than some that have an agenda cross town. Heck, you'd think they would love to see the guy go.

If I were Hoovers coach, I would probably turn down any other high school in the country.

I travel to Valdosta on business and wouldn't move there either.

I'll be the first to agree with that. The only good thing about Valdosta is that once you are there, it's not much farther until your in Florida.

I'm just saying, the way it was reported here earlier, using the term "supposedly" didn't seem out of line.

Didn't the school deny it?

No agenda just clearing up that they thought is was Sphire. Nothing ever proved he was offered or interviewed. We must believe what we must.

Also, Hot Dogs in Valdosta????????????

Is Valdosta a public school?

I don't know that the school commented at all. I have first hand knowledge of the facts from multiple sources within Valdosta. Can anyone on this board top that? I didn't think so.

With all due respect, boosters don't make job offers. Maybe the boosters wanted Beatty. Perhaps the administration preferred the three guys that were reported as finalists. I don't know that anyone here, other than possibly Beatty, knows the entire story.

I believe it is.

Well the fact is, you don't know and I do. So minus any real info you sound more like some guy that has an ax to grind. I would think that since Coach Beatty is 6-3 versus your team you'd be glad to endorse him anywhere but here.

I'll tell you a similar story that might bring some light onto how these things are done. My alma mater courted coach Petrino. After the interview the public line in Baton Rouge was he was dropped from consideration by LSU. Coach Petrino said he withdrew his name. I checked with a few of my boys still in the know down on the bayou and was told that "Bobby said he didn't have any further interest in LSU, after that we didn't have any further interest in Bobby". Both sides tell different versions and each saves face, but now you know the rest of the story.

The story of Coach Beatty and Valdosta was very similar. It was his job to turn down, believe it or not thats a fact.

Whats with the "hot dog" comment? I don't get it. If it your attempt at an insult is both lame and against the BGP rules.

Don't anybody fall over but I am going to agree with LSU on this...while we all saw that Beatty was not a finalist on the list.

I ran into a family member of Bob's during this time. I was told by Bob's "insert a family members name here" was considering a job in Georgia. If I recall I had another BGP member with me at the time as well as several other friends.

There have been a lot of coaches that have been known to report "job offers" made by other schools when they were merely discussions of the position.

I don't have a clue as to whether Beatty was offered the Valdosta job or not, and I really don't care if he turned it down or was turned down. But I think it's fair to say the issue is a bit cloudy.
