Rick Pitino open to coaching again but says he must 'get on with a different part of

Rick Pitino hasn't ruled out a return to coaching, but he told ESPN that he needs to move on with his life in case another opportunity doesn't present itself.

Pitino, 65, was fired by Louisville a little more than a month ago despite maintaining he wasn't aware of an alleged payment from a Cardinals assistant to the family of Brian Bowen, a freshman who hasn't been cleared to play by the school.

He should volunteer to be Head Coach at a HS and enjoy.

Agreed. Obviously the money isn't nearly as good, but many of these coaches have made millions already. There are a lot of college coaches who would likely benefit from spending time working at a regular high school (not a prep school or basketball factory).

It will be interesting to see if he is willing to take a mid-major job or a regular job on TV. Part of me thinks that he feels like he HAS to coach and part of me thinks that it would be hard for him to take a "lesser" job than he has had.

Who are some coaches that went from "big time" programs and were successful but then ended up at a mid-major? Rollie Massimino comes to mind first--Villanova to Cleveland State. Fresh on my mind because he played NKU this weekend, Cliff Ellis has been at Coastal Carolina for many years now (not as successful as Rollie).

I wouldn't hire Rick Pitino at this point but there will be schools that will.

It only takes one out of 350+ schools.

I say it wouldn't take more than :15 seconds to sign a contract if offered.

He is 65 years old. Bruce Pearl got a 3 year show cause, Donnie Tyndall (and Andre McGee) got a 10 year show cause. Sooooo..... Pitino will be between 68 and 75 when he is eligible to take an NCAA head coaching job.

NBA?

Good point Old Bird. Which makes VOR's point interesting and maybe his only option in the near future.

I think NBA is his only option and I can't imagine that is much of an option either. I just don't see him being that desirable. NBA is a players league that isn't exactly the best match for Pitino.

Is there a show-cause for Pitino?

Is there a show-cause for Pitino?

Is it reasonable to think he might get one?

This article was Pitino's way of letting schools know he's available.
