I talked to a good friend of mine who has a child that plays for Paintsville. Told me that they were watching film and practicing for the rematch with Hazard. Just goes to show you can't overlook anyone this time of year.

Congrats to the Rams! And to all those fervent (your word of the day ) Rams fans we see on BGP every day. I am happy for all of you.

 

That being said, we all know there is more work ahead. Pikeville is playing their best football of the year and will be a tough semi-final opponent.

 

This Rams team is starting to remind me of last year's Beechwood team. That 2016 Beechwood team followed a 2015 Beechwood team loaded with excellent D1/college level talent that fell short of a title. The 2016 team was not expected to win it all but they did. This Rams team also is following up the year after a very talented group of seniors graduated and they are reaching heights that may not have been expected by even many Rams fans.

From what I could gather from the Raceland radio broadcast was that he was hit very hard on his first 2 or 3 carries, went to the sidelines shaken up / dazed and although he played after that, he wasn't as effective. I do know that the Rams defense / LB's were keying on Allen a lot....everywhere he went, Allen had Ram defenders with him. That (keying the best back) was a part of the Raceland game preps.

Czar ...:idunno: that's just what I gathered from the broadcast along with talking with a couple of good friends and parent of a Raceland player and how accurate it is, I don't know for sure. Was JMO, should you know anyone on the PHS side of things then you may want to check w / them.

Looking at stats in other games, it is not unusual that Allen would only have 6 carries. He only had 8 carries in the first game against Raceland. When Paintsville played Hurricane, Allen had 5 carries. Against Pikeville earlier in the year, he had 8 carries.

It's easy to see that there was no offensive explosion from either team and the 2 TD difference was from the two pick 6 int returns by Raceland's G. Lewis

Paintsville rushing / team = 46 yds.

Raceland passing / team = 115 yds.

Paintsville passing / team = 157 yds.

 

Raceland rushing leaders = H. Lacks, 10 carries - 34yds / J. Adkins, 16 carries - 29 yds.

Raceland passing = D. Black - 12 / 16 passes for 115 yds - 2 TD

Raceland receivers J. Adkins and T. Ferguson both had 1 TD , Leading receiver - J. Adkins, 3 catches for 52 yds. (Raceland completed passes to 6 different receivers)

Just one more bit of funny info was yesterday, when I had a Raceland player's dad tell me that one thing that they saw.... "when arriving, turning into the stadium was a carton of "Orange Crush" pop in the road, had been smashed / ran over ....they didn't know if a Paintsville fan had set it there, knowing it would be seen when the Rams bus arrived. :" ... He thought that was a good, and harmless prank/shot if they had. Anyway, it served the team as a reminder, kinda like blackboard material.

Also, a couple of the Raceland faithful that were listening to the Paintsville radio broadcast at the game and wanted to ask the radio crew.... " if those "Lambs" (as he kept referring to Raceland) had bitten his mighty Tigers a bit too hard :sneaky: :popcorn: ".

 

I enjoy going back and forth like that .... Both are very good teams, I believe that the teams and fans respect one another. At least I know it's that way, all in good fun / jabbing with me and the Ram fans I know.

I was shocked by how many times Paintsville threw the ball. Especially on the drive where the 1st Pick-Six occurred effectively ending the game. A nice drive was put together, down 3 with around 1:30 left in the game, and on the 20 yard line going in. 3 or 4 shots near or in the endzone, and then a repetitive play call ended up with a Lewis making a great play and scoring. I just thought they were in far too big of a hurry on that final drive, but the QB is young and he will learn from this. The box score I saw from after the game showed Paintsville was 8/32 passing for 157 yards.

 

Raceland had a great gameplan and absolutely earned the victory. Hats off to their kids and staff on a fantastic group effort in an extremely hard hitting football game.
