Can anyone find a blood center around NKY, I'll be more than happy to go. I know Hoxworth is around here somewhere, just don't know where.

This is such an important point! PLEASE sign your driver's lisence or donor card! You could deliver someone from a desperate situation, and save a family from losing a loved one. If you should die suddenly, at least your death will have brought the gift of life to another person--maybe even several people.

And in the state of Kentucky, it cost nothing to be a donor. Just a couple of signitures and you are a donor. That's the greatest part.

 

Death can happen at any time and any moment. It has to be something that you are ready to face, because at any moment, it is the one thing that is inevitable. You will live and you will die. Might as well help someone out when it happens.

I wanted to let everyone know that I greatly appreciate your donations for the Silent Auction. Each of you will be receiving a thank you from the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at Morehead State. Thanks to the gracious donations that were given, we were able to raise $1,250 which will be sent directly to Keith and his family. I will be making a longer post later, but again - THANKS!

I just wanted to remind everyone about the Bone Marrow

Drive for Keith Cochran. Anyone that would like to be

tested can do so in Button Auditorium on the campus of

Morehead State University tomorrow (Wednesday) from 11:00-5:00. Keith has a very agressive cancer known as non-Hodgkins Lymphoma

and needs a bone marrow transplant. He is only

31-years old and has two sweet little girls, ages 2

and 7 months.

I just gave blood last Tuesday...but if someone directs me to a free test here in Louisville I will most certainly do so...we are about the same age, and I will soon have two young, young children as well.

For very sad reasons, I thought I would pull this thread back up. Keith's cancer has returned and this time there aren't alot of options for a medical cure. I will just post an e-mail that I have been sending to my friends in Christ and let everyone read it that cares to:

If you could, pass this along to anybody else you know that prays and believes in the power of prayer. My fraternity brother that needed a bone marrow transplant about a year ago isn't going to make it this time. He appeared to be totally healed in February and had a normal life for about 6-7 months. He recently got sick and now his cancer is back, even worse, and there's nothing else that can be done. I have been extremely upset after reading his post on his CarePage through the hospital. He is pretty much my hero after seeing how strong his faith is. I only wish that I could ever be this strong. He has two little girls, ages 3 and 1. Here is what he posted a few nights ago:

Well, It's been awhile since I last posted. As many of

you are aware, my cancer has returned. I don't have

alot of options this time around. I'm going to be

spending some quality time with my family.

greatness in God through my journey. How wonderful has

it been to see others find Christ by praying for me?

Or seeing the additional 1,000 plus become blood

marrow donors. I think a couple of people have

actually been a match for someone in

need. How can anyone doubt how awesome our God is? I

feel my time may be coming soon and to be honest, if

it is God's will, I'm ready. I believe a positive turn

of events will continue for years to come.

 

I pray that everyone will continue to grow towards

Christ and rejoice when he calls one of his children

home.

The actual donation usually requires that the donor undergoe general anesthesia during which a doctor extracts marrow from the pelvic bone, using a needle. The donor is discharged that day, but usually has some soreness for awhile. A true 'pain in the butt", but worth saving someone's life. I have never done it, but we should all be reminded of the importance. If it was one of our loved ones, it seems like a small price to pay.

 

Hoxworth has been calling me recently to get me to donate blood. I will go Friday and certainly ask to be put on the list. Best of luck to your friend.

 

That was a quote from last year. I have since learned that bone marrow donation is much easier and less painful than it used to be.

 

FYI, I did go to our local Hoxworth center (Ft. Mitchell) to donate and was told that they do not take the samples needed for bone marrow donation there.:irked: Seems absolutely crazy! What a perfect opportunity to get donors!

 

I am due to go back, so hopefully this has changed.

 

I am very sorry to hear that things are not going well for your friend. It is true that our real heros are men, women and children who, like him, fight such tough battles.

I'll be honest with you - he has the strongest faith of anyone I have ever encountered. I only pray that I could be that strong in similar circumstances.

He sounds like a very special person. I just hope for the best for him and his family. I am so happy that he has the faith that he does. I am really sad about this situation.

Prayers go out to this young man, and his family. I forwarded the message to our church secretary, and he has been put on our church prayer list. This man's faith and attitude is a great example and blessing to us all.
