Reminds me of my dad, who played cello for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra for 44 years.

Choosing just 2 or 3 is merely impossible for me considering that some 30+ tunes came to mind that fall into the theme of the thread, and I imagine that if I were to keep pondering I could come up with 30 more. I'll resist the urge to post them all, and as difficult as this is, I'll limit myself to just 5.

While as a kid I probably knew more about bands and songs than most kids my age, I always felt like I had some serious catching up to do, and it embarrassed me to no end if someone were able to say to me, "C'mon man, you've never heard of....so and so???"

 

This ordinarily happened to me from older kids, or while camping out for concert tickets, but appearing cool to them was my number 1 priority. (BTW it never worked as I, by my best estimation, always came away looking too square to them anyhow...:lol2:).

 

... So as a teen I had to step up my game to never not be in the know, but I can distinctly recall in the 8th grade rattling off to classmates all my 45's thinking they'd think I was cool, and typically they'd roll their eyes bored to tears.

 

Then around 20 I found that really stepping up my game meant knowing all about the bands that nobody has ever heard of before, which really threw me into a whole different game where I realized that I was starting to really separate myself, for better or for worse, from the general public.

 

Truly I completely dig tons of music, and being cool wasn't the only reason, but once the need to be in the know became all so important it has followed me to this very day, and I'm still the teenaged 4-eyed music nerd trying to be cool that I was at 14 only it's now nearly 40 years later, and I'm still waiting for my bozo button that has eluded me. :idunno:
