Your "Perfect" Song - What Tune Takes You to That Special Place?

Featured Replies

In this thread, I'm looking for a song(rock, country, any genre) that is special to you. For whatever reason, it's a song that touches your heart, massages your spirit, takes you to that special place like none other. Maybe it has something to do when you first heard the song. Maybe it has more to do with the lyrics and what they speak of. Maybe there's just something about the voice of the singer(s), the beautiful harmonies, the delicate instrumentation. Or maybe the tune just takes you away to that special place. I'd love to hear your special song. If there's another tune(or two, or three) that has an equally powerful effect on you, list it as well.

Tell me what song takes you to that special place within your mind and spirit...

SOUTHERN CROSS

Crosby, Stills & Nash

Got out of town on a boat goin' to Southern Islands

Sailing a reach before a followin' sea

She was makin' for the trades on the outside

And the downhill run to Papeete

Off the wind on this heading lie the Marquesas

We got eighty feet of the waterline nicely making way

In a noisy bar in Avalon I tried to call you

But on a midnight watch I realized why twice you ran away

Think about

Think about how many times I have fallen

Spirits are using me, larger voices callin'

What Heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten

Around the world (I have been around the world)

Lookin' (lookin' for that woman girl)

Who knows she knows (who knows love can endure)

And you know it will

When you see the Southern Cross for the first time

You understand now why you came this way

'Cause the truth you might be runnin' from is so small

But it's as big as the promise, the promise of a comin' day

So I'm sailing for tomorrow my dreams are a-dyin'

And my love is an anchor tied to you (tied with a silver chain)

I have my ship and all her flags are a-flyin'

She is all that I have left and music is her name

Think about

Think about how many times I have fallen

Spirits are using me, larger voices callin'

What Heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten

I have been around the world (I have been around the world)

Lookin' (lookin' for that woman girl)

(Who knows love can endure)

And you know it will

And you know it will

So we cheated and we lied and we tested

And we never failed to fail it was the easiest thing to do

You will survive being bested

Somebody fine will come along make me forget about loving you

And the southern cross

Songwriters: Michael Curtis / Richard Curtis / Stephen Stills

Easy. It's a cliche, but...

I have several of them. Each takes me back to a certain time or makes me think of a certain person.

Takes me back to good times with good friends.

Kind of personal. But makes me think of a time and a person in my past.

This one makes me think of my deceased sister. She had the 45, I still have it to this day.

This one makes me think of Birdsfan. Sometimes it makes me smile. Sometimes it brings a tear to my eye.

"Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum.

Choosing just 2 or 3 is merely impossible for me considering that some 30+ tunes came to mind that fall into the theme of the thread, and I imagine that if I were to keep pondering I could come up with 30 more. I'll resist the urge to post them all, and as difficult as this is, I'll limit myself to just 5.

It's pretty obvious. It's gotta be about Momma, trains, trucks, prison, and getting drunk. I think that would be the perfect song.
