We went to bed and woke up last weekend thinking the change was last weekend...made it a little close getting to church on time!

I hate how long it takes the sun to rise this time of year it makes it harder to get out of bed. I got up at 7:30 this morning to let my dogs out and it was still dark.

I get off work at 5:30 and have time for 18 holes. I enjoy daylight savings time. Just not this past week or so where it's still dark when I'm getting ready for work. That sucks.

Honestly, I could handle only 6 hours of daylight. Dark doesn't bother me. Bright sun, light too early, light too late, I hate it.

Actually they did change in England last week as they always do a week different than we do, which makes me wonder just how hard would it be for both countries to just sync up and make it the same damn week? Why in the world is it always on different weeks? :idunno:

The British always have to be different from us.

They don’t spell “neighbor”, “center”, and “theater” correctly.

And they have crazy mileage numbers on their road signs.

I looked up the origins of the word "Soccer" an actually the Brits had coined it, but when they found out that the Americans used it to differentiate from football they immediately ditched using it.

 

I don't think they have ever outright admitted it, but they do in many ways take opposite routes than Americans do in so many things to avoid being similar.

 

In addition to the spellings that you mentioned take notice if ever given the chance to how they say garage, schedule, or aluminum, not to mention banana and tomato.

 

Of course we know that they drive on the opposite side of the street with the steering wheel on the right side of the vehicle, and while there are a handful of others around the world who also do, Europe mostly drives on the same side that we do.

 

A Brit friend of mind says "brolly" when referring to an umbrella, which is fine, but he thought that I was out of my head when I asked why don't they call it a "brelly"?

 

He said "why would we call it that?, and I said because "umbrella" is spelled with an "e" and not and "o", and he still looked at me like I was from Mars.

 

I had him tell me how he spelled "umbrella", and he spelled it u-m-b-r-e-l-l-a, so I said again if "brolly" is short for "umbrella" and "umbrella" is spelled with an "e", how did the slang version come to be spelled with an "o"?.

 

I was standing at a bus stop with him and his wife in England when this discussion took place and they both just didn't get what I was getting at, and I whispered to them that "We'll talk about it later" because other Brits at the bus stop were starting to look at me like this rude American was insulting them. :lol2:

 

Anyhow, don't get me wrong, I dig the Brits in many ways, and even most of my most favorite music is British while I just think that they have a better handle on tasteful art and music, and how it's presented.

 

I do get a kick out of their numerous sayings and such, and how they speak, yet I can't help but think that in some respects they have somewhat of a complex about Americans and will do everything in their power to avoid being anything like us if they can help it. :lol2:
