BluegrassPreps Class 4A Football Rankings (10/30) Discussion

Class 4A

The term "chalk" can be used to describe a lot of situations in sports, in fact "chalk" may even apply to the majority of the teams ranked in other classes. The one class where "chalk" got thrown out the window this season was Class 4A, where no ranking was safe and no win ever seemed to be a sure thing. Over the final few weeks the cream did appear to rise in Class 4A as the top contenders finally took form, thanks to District play. The defending Champions Johnson Central was the unanimous top team the majority of the season, but following back to back losses now see a playoff path with many more road games. Wayne County is the new team to beat, and looked the part handling a solid 5A Madison Southern. The other headline of the final week was a surprising Logan County capping off a perfect regular season by defeating Todd Central. The one positive to all the surprising scores and upsets this season is that the playoffs should open with numerous intriguing games. In the West, Warren East versus Hopkinsville and Allen County- Scottsville at Madisonville are huge showdowns. On the Eastern side, Greenup County travelling to Bourbon County and John Hardin trekking to Knox Central both raise eyebrows.

1. Wayne County vs. Valley

2. Ashland vs. Holmes

3. Johnson Central vs. Mason County

4. Collins vs. West Jessamine

5. Franklin-Simpson vs. Hopkins County Central

6. Western vs. Clay County

7. Knox Central vs. John Hardin

8. Logan County vs. Warren Central

9. Rockcastle County at Moore

10. Scott vs. Rowan County

4A has been hard to decipher all season. It will be interesting to see if there is any mayhem in the postseason.

Will Wayne hoist the crown?

Here is the issue with Wayne County... where is their signature win?

Pulaski seemed like a quality win at the time.. but now it may actually be a negative against the cardinals with the narrow margin they won by.

Warren East and Harlan County are decent wins, but nothing to write home about.

Rockcastle and Knox were quality wins in District play.. but how good are either of those teams really?

Wayne's best win may very well have been Madison Southern.

I think Wayne enters as the favorite.. but my better guess is this Class continues to be a roller coaster like it has all year and any number of teams may win this thing.

1. Wayne

1. Collins

3 Ashland

4 Franklin Simpson

5 Johnson Central

6 Logan

7 Western

8th. tie with about anyone you wish to list.

Curious as to your reasoning here?

Wayne I can understand... but what about Collin's resume do you feel puts them ahead of Johnson Central And Ashland?

Even more specifically what has Franklin-Simpson done that has them ahead of Johnson Central? F-S was blown out by the two better teams they faced (who most consider to be weaker teams than the two teams who beat JC) and F-S also has a loss to a mediocre Meade County.

Ashland has beaten JC and they are the defending Champs. Beating them for the District is one thing, beating them for the Region is another. The Ashland JC winner hoists the trophy.

I am going with who is hot and looking at entire year,

Collins lost to Boyle and at Ballard.

Beat 2 of Waynes opponents more than they did.

Wayne lost 2 Boyle but played no one else close to Ballard.

JC has lost 2 in a row. You are dropping in rankings in my book.

Ashland loss don't look good to me. Big Win over JC. Without that, might not be top 5 IMO.

FS, E-town, S. Warren and Meade. 5-0 playing great.

Promise you ashlad would have lost those 3.

I don't understand what your trying to say with the bolded?

As far as Johnson Central and their two losses go, one was to Ashland the #2 team in 4A, while the other was to a 3A Belfry team that would be the favorite to win 4A this year, if they were a 4A school.

FS started the season against a veteran Elizabethtown team loaded with Seniors that had played together their entire lives. Franklin put offensive and defensive lines on the field that night that consisted of one returning starter. Yes, it was a blowout for Elizabethtown but FS actually had 376 yards of total offense to E-town's 329. Four turnovers were the killer.

The South Warren game put a green secondary to the test. A guy named Spurrier shredded the FS secondary much as he has done everyone all year. But our secondary learned a great deal that day and have made tremendous strides. Allen County's passing attack netted 113 yards and 51 yards of total offense.

The Meade County game is inexplicable. The officiating crew is notorious in West Kentucky. Notorious for being bad. The FS/MC game had 300 yards of penalties. Evenly distributed. A fan was thrown out of the game and a MC coach was ejected....after the game had been over and the teams had their hand shake. This crew hung around that long after the clock hit 0:00.

The old saying is "you are what your record says you are" so I suppose FS is a pretty good 7-3 team that seems to be peaking at the right time. I just don't know where that "peak" will take them.

I couldn't have said that any better. Thanks for taking care of my blubber that no one could understand.

oh and BTW, those West Ky guys are really bad when it comes to teams traveling from Reg 2.

Wayne County turned the ball over 4 times vs Boyle. One was a pick six.

Boyle beating Wayne was a very good win for the Rebels. Maybe the best of the year. And Wayne held Boyle to 103 yards rushing.

They can play.

I can see the logic in that statement.

But this year, JC has lost to the two best teams they’ve faced. Not sure there’s a guarantee in their crowning.

They also have a big win over Capitol High School from WV. They're ranked 4th overall in the state and their only other losses are to #1 Huntington High and #3 Spring Valley, which is also a large Huntington school. JC's win over Capitol is likely the best win a 4A team has had all season. JC did have Joe Jackson for that game however (it may be the game he was injured in) and he is certainly a difference maker.

Ok. First game of the season have best win of the year at home. Jackson had seven carries. From the looks of the stats four turnovers were a big difference.

Either way they’ve played their two best opponents in last two weeks and lost. That’s going backwards.
