Should Hastert step down?

Featured Replies

More and more the truth of what happened is becoming irrelevant and the pressure may demand Hastert step down for the good of the party. I don't think Foley's head on a platter is going to be enough to satisfy the media.

And if he doesn't, this will always come back up as long as he stays in that position. You want it to go away, than he has to go away also.

If Hastert knew about Foley's activity since 2003 and looked the other way as has been alleged by a Republican Congressional staffer, it doesn't reflect very well on his integrity or the integrity of the party. The Republicans claim to be the party that stands for something.

My point is that whether he did or did not know is becoming irrelevant. The public believes he did. Truth is irrelevant in the world of politics in compared to what the voters believe.

It's relevant to me. I understand what you are saying but scum such as Foley should not be protected or ignored. Everything that happened after Hastert heard about this the first time is on him IMHO. He should have taken immediate action but, of course, this would be a devastating blow to the party. They would lose that seat for sure if he blows this out of the water. If the Democrats have sat on this until right before the election then they are just as guilty. It shouldn't take much investigating to find out who knew about it in this party. Who leaked it to the media? And, how long did the media sit on it? Several months I'm hearing. What is the world coming to?

I can only say that as a member of management, both in the private sector and government, that if I knew about some inappropriate sexual harassment going on between employees in my command and I did nothing to act on it, I would be terminated.

I'm a Conservative Republican and I admire Hastert greatly. I don't want to jump on this witch hunt 4 weeks before election day, but if he knew about this and did nothing he should be taken out of leadership. Out of a job? That's up to the voters.

:thumb: :thumb: I'd be gone in a second - as well I should be. Not only would I be ask to walk out the door, my retirement and the whole package I've worked so hard for would stay behind.

If that is the case then the Soros-Funded CREW should lose their tax exempt status and should be investigated for withholding information in a potential criminal activity.

My parties Liberal constituents in Congress will keep on bringing up things until something turns out to be true, I'm fairly sure. However their batting record on having somthing that they've picked up and ran with is pretty dismal.

1 The George Bush didn't complete his Air National Guard Service cry floundered miserably.

2 Getting either Cheney or Rove ousted for outing "A CIA AGENT" also failed miserably even though it was announced that there would be an indictment at any time.

3 Blaming Donald Rumsfield for the Sunnis and Shiites killing each other over a religious disagreement and wanting him either to resign or be replaced makes about as much sense as some of them saying we blue up the twin towers on

September 11, 2001.

After the accusations have been proven to be false, I cannot remember one time when the Congressional Democrats came out with "We Were Wrong!!!"

Before you invaid a country and predict a walk in the park, it is a good ideal to have some history on those tribes that have hated each other for thousands of years. It would have probably have been beneficial for Donnie to look back as recently as 80 years ago when the British tried the same thing and faied. But, what the heck, thats' asking way to much from that bunch of knuckle heads in Washington.

Looking over the broad scheme of things the Foley deal has hit the Republicans but where the battels are being fought, it has not really had an effect.

Many feel Foley's district will hold again for the Republicans.

Geoff Davis here in NKY has seen him rebound nicely and is ahead of Lucas despite what has transpired over the last two weeks.

It is fought district to district...but the polls are pushing for the Dems.

From what I am hearing, the leaks to ABC and the Fllorida papers came from the justice department because they were frustated and discusted that no one in the Bush Admin was doing anything about Foley, AND they were being told not to investigate any further, because the Bush Admin knew they were in deep do do.

Where do you get your information? I'm sure a link would be out of the question.

ABC News

Everything I've read said they came from democrat operatives. I've yet to see someone credible claim they came from the justice department.

ABC News. Unless you only consider them credible when they run fictional Disney movies like "The path to 911."

It would appear that the source of the emails was a GOP House staffer but the source of the more explicit IM's is still murky.

From the article:

The first Web report of the relatively tame e-mails appears to have prompted someone to share the explicit IM messages. After ABC News obtained those messages, in which Foley discussed sexual acts with the second former page, a scandal mushroomed on Capitol Hill, and Foley resigned.

The source who provided the e-mails that ABC News first reported on its blog, denied sharing the more explicit IMs.

So while the primary source of the e-mails which kicked off the scandal was a House GOP aide, the trigger of the news coverage was the weblog.

The creator of stopsexpreditors.blogspot.com is unknown. An interview request e-mailed to the site was not returned.
