Question for all the Mercer haters. Should we go through all the classifications and any school that is say at the top of a particular class make them play up? Or if a class drops enrollment which allows it to drop down a class do you allow that? If so what is the level that you make the cut off? If someone goes has a 2% increase in enrollment do we make them play up? What about a 6% increase?

 

How about a team loses 10% enrollment do we let them drop down?

I don't think anybody is hating just stating the facts. Answer this question for me.... do you really not think Highlands, Lex Cath, Bell Co, Rockcastle or Cov Cath would not be pounding teams in 2A also?

Just resign yourself to the fact that every Mercer thread will be hijacked about the fact that with the merge, Mercer absorbed 200 students and were left in 2A.

A problem in Ky football is too many really weak programs that are not the kids problem. Ky is a large state with small population. The kids from small programs enjoy playing just as much as the ones with more resources.

 

At the 1a and 2a level fielding a team is a school and community activity for the kids and that's it.

It's not the enrollment that counts, it's the Jimmy's and Joe's that have the game in the heart and soul. There are a lot of 4-A schools (roughly 1200 kids+) that would kill for the numbers the previously mentioned teams have.

I hope Russell can make it to the state title game again. And I think I speak for most fans, not just Russell's. I don't care who it is against. Mercer Co has painted themselves in this us against the world situation and most people to be honest are just sick of hearing it.

If I could see any two teams play in the AA Finals it would be Belfry vs. Russell.... but...that can't happen.

 

Just between me and everyone else... if Larue County can handle Western this weekend than maybe, just maybe, they could have the most impressive resume in the West going into playoff season.:sssh:

Can't fault the kids on this one. But the posters should recognize the advantage Mercer has and show a little restraint with there enthusiasm. Good for them on having a great year, but it's like Trinity dropping to 2A and jumping up and down screaming look at us, we're crushing these tiny schools.

 

Good win for the Titans. Go get your title this year and join the big schools next year, it could be awhile before you get another chance.

 

I think everyone knows about the numbers advantage they have. It has been posted on here since the summer ad nauseum. We get it!!! But there is also some disinformation out there as well. I have seen posters state that they would be a big 4A school this year which is not accurate. They would be 3A simply based on the numbers. They have more kids in their school than the other 2A teams and numerous posters have made this perfectly clear. However, you are comparing Mercer to Trinity? That is a HUGE compliment considering that they were a 2A school who merged with a 1A school (who had 3 wins over teams who were a combined 3-12 in district play last season) and are playing 1 season in 2A (their enrollment would make them a 3A school not a 4A, and nowhere near the number of male students nor to the have the tradition of a powerhouse like Trinity). It wasn't like they merged with Danville, a powerhouse 1A team was it?

 

They simply posted a fact. They did what they were supposed to do in this one, ... win big just as they did last season with a first year coach before the merger. I am not a Mercer supporter, but I do know that I saw a great deal of class from Coach Jaggers in their wins and think he is building a solid program at Mercer. Call them what you will, but they have a very solid team and IMHO, if they were classified in 3A this season, they would still be having an excellent season. Before Jaggers came on board, Mercer was having trouble winning any playoff games. Starting last season BEFORE the merger, there was a lot of excitement in Mercer for the direction their program was heading. Let them enjoy their success. Trinity and X have had a HUGE numbers advantage for years, but I would never discount their accomplishments as they have built their tradition on the back of hard work, solid players and excellent coaching. Same at Mercer, and while I like the direction Jaggers has them going, don't compare them to Trinity just yet.

How did Harrodsburg's opponents manage it?

 

Really Mercer had no choice, playing up is not an option under the current alignment rules, so they couldn't have if they wanted to.
