Where's my Russellville crowd at? 6-2 with losses to an undefeated Logan County team and a loss to Glasgow.

My gauge for Paris is their game against Nicholas. I'm glad they are having a good year but they are not Raceland, Paintsville or Hazard. I said in another thread and still think it's true that Friday is the first of two between Raceland and Paintsville and that winner gets Hazard.

 

I believe they had 2 of their 7-8 offensive weapons out for that game. It's why they only had 12 points.

Obviously, Paris must be doing something right ... because people are talking about them! Not getting a lot of respect and I truly understand why but that's why the game is played on the field and not on paper or social media sites. Beechwood is in another class and to beat them, a team must play a near perfect game ... however, I do believe the Hounds will have enough horses to compete with the other top teams in Class A ... I agree with Bac2369, Paris' road to the state finals will be brutal! #parispride

Paris along with their entire district is the epitome of "they'd rather aim low and hit then aim high and miss" which kills them come play off time. I think they're offense is a regular 1A offense. If you look at all their high scoring outputs, other equal teams have had around the same amount of points when played. Alot of teams could put 68 on Berea, Bracken(45) and Ludlow(54) put up points on Brossart. Multiple teams put up more points on Pineville. I just don't understand where Paris can compete with the upper echelon of 1A.

 

I admit at times we have played to the level of our competition, but we only have an average of about 50- 65 boys in the whole high school year in year out. Our athletes play every sport and compete with what we have. Teams get better as seasons go on. If you ask me health is more important than strength of schedule at the 1a level. All roads go through Beechwood at the end of the day. Anyone out side of them I think we can beat it's that simple.

Paris has more than 50-65 boys in their school, probably closer to a 100(according to KHSAA. Maybe 50-65 that play sports but anyways.

 

That's the difference though between a team like Paris and Raceland. Raceland has played up to their competition such as Ashland and Somerset. I'd take a 14 point loss to Ashland or a 3 point loss to Somerset over any win on Paris' schedule. Those in my book are good losses. To solid teams. In most years Harrison Co. would of been a solid match, but they apparently are really bad this year. Ludlow will be an interesting game, because I believe Paris' gets a bye, so that'll give time for their players to rest and have 2 weeks to prepare for Raceland or Paintsville.

I believe Beechwood is the heavy favorite like everyone else but any team can beat any other team on any given day. I believe Paintsville, Hazard, and KCD all have a shot to win it as well. KCD is super senior latent and with their high powered offense could be a force. I’d like Hazards chances a lot more with the Smith brothers but they have bounced back from their injuries very well and are a very disciplined team. Paintsville in my eyes is the best of the bunch they just beat Hazard in a hard fought close game and look like they play solid defense but will need to score more points to take it all the way.

At their best,the Bearcats might hang with BW for a bit(one can interpret'for a bit' however one sees fit).

 

On the subject of playing up in competition, aside from District play(and I'm including the blowout over Rock Creek as it was a last minute replacement for Eminence who left the district), KCD has faced a 5A team, two ranked 2A squads, another 2A team with six wins, in total 5 of 6 non district games playing up in class. And they'll face 3A Waggener after the final district game this coming Friday.

 

Beechwood's non district schedule has been super, super tough, Hazard, Paintsville and Russellville tough too. None of those schools including KCD have avoided playing decent to superior higher classification teams. And they play those teams week in and week out.

General you can talk about whatever you like. I guess the smack talk thing is to generate some conversation since their was talk in the Paintsville and Raceland game thread.

As for any talk about the possible Raceland / Paris matchup in the playoffs ......#1, first the Rams have an awfully tough game @ Paintsville to play in which PHS is and should be the big favorite. #2. Raceland and / or Paintsville will have another game to go thru to get to Paris, if they win out and most important #3. We can and will talk about that game when and if both get there. I'm not a Paris fan. I just opened a thread so we can talk, gripe, or just talk smack.

What is your point? BW doesn’t play 1A schools in order to prepare themselves for the other top teams in 1A like Hazard and Paintsville. They don’t play cupcakes and think they have a great team. BW has played 1A football forever, now that you think you have a good team then BW shouldn’t be 1A. Hopefully, you are lucky enough to see us again in the playoffs!

 

Before you get all high and mighty. Yes, Beechwood is technically 1A based on numbers from 3 years ago when they did realignment. Doesn't mean they are still truly a 1A school anymore. They were already the biggest 1A team 3 years ago, and from my understanding their enrollment definitely has gone up since then. I would venture to say that come next realignment they definitely will be 2A and wont even be in the bottom 10 of enrollment in 2A. So while I don't agree with what he said complaining about who Beechwood plays as being unfair. It is definitely an uphill fight for teams in 1A going against a team who's numbers probably most definitely are 2A. Quite honestly if the realignment would have happened 2 years ago instead of three years they probably would have already been 2A.

 

With that said it's not Beechwoods fault that they did still fit in to 1A based off the last realignment 3 years ago. Their numbers at the time allowed them to be in 1A, so might as well stay in 1A for one last run to get a few more titles since it had been awhile. Before they do have to start playing in the very tough 2A come next realignment. So while it sucks for the rest of 1A, there is absolutely nothing wrong with what Beechwood has done. When you have as good of a team as they do, then you should play tougher opponents like they do. It just makes them even harder to beat come playoff time.

 

I do wish since most people's schedules are 2 years cycles. That they would actually do realignment every two years. Just in case there are more cases like a Beechwood in the future where they are already the biggest school in a class, and knowing their enrollment is still going up. Who if I heard correctly enrollment definitely has gone up enough to where they would be 2A no question now.
