What did he do to earn the trip to the asst. principals office?

That I do not know.

2nd grader throws a pair of scissors, that's not a threat? If they are throwing things and assaulting adults and other students that is not a threat. Why are we so quick to give kids a free pass to do bad things, specifically things that can injury and potentially kill someone.

No one is giving the kid a free passs. he should be punished and probably was. he issue is handcuffing. You are taking this in directions that just didn't happen. The vast majority of education staff can handle this wh=iythout LE uninvolved.

OK, there's a lot of acronyms going on here. For those of us uninformed, what does RTI and IEP mean?

If a student is Special Ed and I don't know if this kid is, they have an IEP (Individual Education Plan) that is a specific set of strategies to work with the student on his handicap (s). RTI (Response to Intervention) is a tiered plan of educating students before they are tested for Sopecial Education services. It's purpose is to assist in not over identifying students and trying researched based strategies to educate the child prior to being referred for testing..

OK, thanks!

The Kenton County Sheriff's Department (who never agreed to the settlement, but was forced to settle by their insurance company) reached a $337,000 settlement with the two families.

Wow, a corporation dictating how tax dollars are handed out...

The insurance company is paying the money isn't it? Not the Sheriff.

What is going with these insurance companies? This settlement and the big payout to the shoplifting kid in Cincinnati? Why are the insurance companies dishing out all this money?

The lines are really blurry VoR.

Insurance companies are for profit corporations and if they are making a profit then it is ultimately our tax dollars footing the bill for these type of settlements.
