Harrison County Assistant Coach Ron Herrington

Featured Replies

Sad news from Harrison County as long time Thorobred Assistant Coach Ron Herrington passed away last night. Coach Herrington had been diagnosed with cancer shortly after the Harrison County / Beechwood Semi-State in June. Coach Herrington was not only a wonderful coach but a super individual who always put others first and sacrificed many hours to help Coach Whitaker build the Harrison County Baseball Program into a state powerhouse. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. I had the pleasure of having 2 sons pitch for Coach Herrington. Both sons are better men because of the time they spent with Coach Herrington and Coach Whitaker. Prayers to his wife Lena, son John Daniel and daughter Macy and their families. Please keep his family and the Thorobred Baseball family in your prayers.

Thoughts and Prayers to the family, along with the Harrison County program.

Prayers and angels to his family.

This is a very sad day for those of us close to Coach Herrington. He was one of those people who everytime you saw him he put a smile on your face. He will be sadly missed and thoughts and prayers go out to his family and the community of Cynthiana.

I am saddened to hear about Coach Herrington. I'll pass this along to Coach Hammonds. My prayers are with the family and team.

Coach Herrington was a class individual The his family, school, team and all players have my deepest sympathy.

I had the honor of playing for Coach Herrington for 6 years. He was always the coach that would pick you up, if you were down. Probably the greatest pitching coach that I have ever been around and he was even a better person. I can remember him throwing cook-outs for the team no matter what the occasion. Sometimes we would just go out to his house to watch a big game as a team. He would always stick up for his players and was always someone that I felt like I could always turn too if I needed to or if I was having problems with my pitching when I was playing in college. He will be greatly missed! It is truly a sad day in Harrison County!!!

Thoughts and prayers to the Harrison Co. community. It always hits close to home losing a baseball guy. There aren't many good ones, sounds like the baseball community lost one in Coach Herrington...RIP

Thoughts and prayers.

He will be sorely missed in the 10th Region. God be with you and your family members Coach Herrington! Had the pleasure of playing against him, an honorable coach/person.

There was a little write up in the Lexington Herald-Leader on friday about Coach Herrington. Also I am sure that there will be something in the Cynthiana Democrat this upcoming Thursday. I think now the folks @ HCHS should show their appreciation to the Herrington Family by renaming the hilltop baseball field. I think this is long overdue, but it is something that really needs to be done! For example, Herrington Field @ Whitaker Park would be a great way to recognize what the 2 coaches have accomplished. But if the park is going to be renamed for Mac, you have to find a way to add Ronnie!!!

I really wish that I could make it to the memorial service, but unfortunately I'll be out of town! I am sure that the church will be overflowing with people!

He will be missed. The kind of man who didn't want headlines but results and good things for the kids.

I agree 100%. First, My prayers are with Coach Herrington's family, as well as the community with his passing.

Secondly, That field should have been renamed a long time ago. Mac Whitaker is 10th region baseball. Both coaches need to be honored somehow. Even as many times as the ended our (Bracken co.) season early, Ive always respected that team and thier players.

The Memorial Service was very nice. It was good to see so many former players and coaches there in support of the Herrington family. Austin Kearns a close family friend was also in attendance. I was reminded that only 1 Assistant Coach has been inducted into the High School Baseball Hall of Fame and that 1 is none other than Coach Herrington. The Hilltop just will not be the same without #55 in the first base dugout.
