Nicholas County vs. Berea

You're thinking of Berea, not Phelps.

No, it was 2015 when Paris was scheduled to face Phelps in the opening round of the playoffs. The KHSAA notified Paris the week of that Phelps will not be playing. The Hounds wanted a forfeit win but the KHSAA said no. Paris and Berea wouldn't have played in the playoffs during the first round coming from the same district.

The Hounds beat Berea during the regular season that year 59-7.

Yes they would of, Phelps hasn't been in a district since the new alignment. Remember Berea has been the "4th" team" in the Paintsville,Raceland, Fairview district.

No need for 8 man football. Berea should be consolidated with Madison Southern. You can bet the remaining kids in the Berea system that want to play football won't be there next year. The program, unless something drastically changes, is done.

They have a higher enrollment then Paris and Paintsville and at one time, both those teams were in really bad shape. Should they of consolidated with Bourbon and Johnson Central? Berea just needs to find their ground, out of district.

1A Playoffs Round 2: Paris vs. Fairview Predictions - 2015

Fairview almost suffered an upset loss in round 1 against Nicholas County. Now they get to face undefeated Paris in round 2. Paris got a first round bye due to Phelps dropping out of the playoffs. Will that week off hurt Paris in this game? Can Fairview get an upset win in this one despite their close call in round 1? Fairview is clearly the toughest opponent Paris has faced all year. Does that make Paris the underdog in this one despite their undefeated record?

Phelps finished 0-10 that year and did not miss a regular season game but decided not to play in the playoffs. Phelps dropped out of district play that next season.

That's all incorrect.

District 5 has been a five-team league since 2015. District 8 in the original alignment was Hazard, Jenkins, Phelps, Pikeville, and South Floyd. The fifth place team from D8 served as the four seed from D6 in the playoffs, while the fifth place team from D5 didn't qualify. Phelps finished fifth in 2015 and thus served as the four team in D6, playing at Paris in the first round (the game subsequently canceled). Berea has finished fifth every season since the realignment and therefore haven't participated in the playoffs.

Regarding Phelps, they dropped out of district play before last season and then returned this year.

I stand corrected, I should of consulted the KHSAA first. They did it last year too vs Nicholas Co.

Its not a matter of ground, its a matter of bodies. They went 3 years without a middle school team. The program is toast.

Went or have went? Do they have a middle school team now?

Berea has never been a very good football program but they have had some positive moments. When Madison Southern opened in 1989 that gave students in the southern part of Madison County a school to go to besides Berea, thus hurting their enrollment a touch. When Madison County opened their enrollment process and allowed students more choice, along with John Clark being a good hire, that put Berea in an even greater bind. Now there is a very viable football option right up the street - why continue to struggle at Berea? Like you, I can't see this program existing much longer.

To my knowledge they haven't finished a middle school season since 2011.

I confused myself, where Phelps had dropped last year, they gave Berea the option to take that spot, which they also denied?

Neither Paris nor Paintsville were ever even close to where Berea is now. I said it would take drastic change that I just don't see happening.

On a side note, JC is at the top now and Bourbon County isn't to bad. Imagine what they would be like IF that happened.....and someday it probably will.
