I'm not sure there was any negotiations. Bracken says we seed or we don't play. Am I missing the negotiation part of that?

They tried a bullying tactic! If I don't get my way, I'll take my ball and go home! These same adults try to discourage kids from bullying when they're trying to bully people themselves

So you weren't denied to the opportunity... you just weren't good enough to win the game that mattered to get to the region

No. We could not beat a Division 1 pitcher. But we deserved to be in Region. Only the ignorant will try to justify Augusta going to Region for baseball. It’s just not right.

They are also showing the kids to stand up for what they believe is right.

How do you "deserve" to be anything ? If you couldn't beat the best, then you aren't the best.

First you say that it's Augusta and St Pat's fault...now it's because Mason had a D1 pitcher you couldn't beat....

How is it that somehow you feel entitled to be in the region, through a defacto award of second place ? Was there some belief that somehow you would have a miracle day and beat Mason's D1 pitcher ?

Flawed logic. Either you can win, or you can't.

But to attempt to justify being rewarded for mediocrity by punishing those on a less firm footing is asinine logic.

THANK YOU! I don't understand the logic that just because you're the 2nd best you deserve to play in the Region. Where I come from it's not okay to be 2nd best and anything less than 1st is unacceptable. Bracken County throwing a hissy fit because they're the 2nd best team in the district and not getting to play in the Region is the equivalent of receiving a participation trophy.

I believe I saw someone post that 61 of 64 Districts are seeded. Is this only for basketball or all sports; and who are the other two (aside from the one we're currently talking about)?

I'm a firm believer that seeding is obviously better for the sport as a whole, and even if you are the second best team in the region you should still get the chance to play in the regional tournament (it's exciting for the kids and great for building a program tradition). Cinderella story is a saying for a reason! However, each school is responsible for doing what is best for their school so I don't blame Augusta and St. Pat for their stance.

I agree with Bracken "taking their ball and going home". Why play a pointless game? I know many districts are voting to only play their other district schools once a year compared to the normal two. The first match-up goes toward district seeding so what it the point in playing a second game. Smart coaches aren't going to show any actual game plan, and hold their good stuff for the tournament, so the game is basically pointless. Instead, take those extra 3/4 games that would be spent on playing each district team twice and add more teams to your schedule that will better prepare you for the district/regional tournament.

If my notes are correct I believe there are 5 districts in the state that still blind draw for boys basketball:

5th Region:

20th Adair County, Campbellsville, Marion County, Taylor County

10th Region:

38th Harrison County, Nicholas County, Pendleton County, Robertson County

39th Augusta, Bracken County, Mason County, St. Patrick

11th Region:

44th Berea, Madison Central, Madison Southern, Model

14th Region:

54th Buckhorn, Hazard, Leslie County, Perry County Central

The 20th District recently voted to do a blind draw as a way to try and punish Taylor County for the way they went about their business.
