The Birds showed a 4-4 defense last week and still got worked for over 250 yards rushing. I think the defense is giving up over 200 yds a game this season on avg. I don't have access to any film but where lies the problem? Losing at the LOS? LB's not running downhill? Missed tackles? Just curious to hear opinions from those who have seen game film on hudl, etc.

Yeah it's BW running the D this year.

 

Personally, I think it's scheme and LOS, combined with sup par physical play and poor tackling. Unless it's Beast Mode, no high school kid should be averaging 5+ YAC

Just curious who told you they played a 4-4 last week? The did play with 4 lineman, 1 inside backer (Bowman or Hagedorn), 2 outside backers that played more like strong safeties (Huber, Starkey and/or Reynolds), the remainder were DB's.

 

Looked to be trying to take away the passing game and LexCath was wise to that and took what Highlands was giving them.

 

The excuses that I keep hearing are injuries and we try and compete with what we have. Many of the previously injured were dressed which in my book means they are able to play yet they stand on the sidelines for the entire game.

Birds did have 2 senior defensive starters dressed and did not play a single down. Do not know what is going on but I'm sure they will all be back this week. 2 linebackers at that.

I'm not sure Shear has to throw one pass based on that last game. LCA's #4 made it 5-7 yards before anyone even touched his jersey. That was crazy.

Would love to see Johnson and Dunn on dline and Lewin and Hall at LB. size where it's needed and hard hitting guys with speed at LB...

Were you at the game last year? SK thumped us and pulled a garbage move and made sure to score another (with Shear) with almost no time left, up by at least 3 scores I believe.

Doesn't a 5-2 mean that you have 5 downlineman and 2 linebackers? If so, they did not run this defense. I explained what they ran earlier. They had 4 down, a middle backer and two guys on outside that were hybrid type linebackers with the main goal being to stop the pass. Problem is they got gauged by the run and again made no adjustments to what was being done to them. Reason being given is that the linebacking corp is suffering from an exorbitant amount of injuries.
