Don't think so. They're usually pretty even, with McCracken probably slightly better in most seasons.

Doubt it. McCracken's considered a fringe top-10 team for 6A and two schools in Hardin County (non top-10 6A Central Hardin and top-five ish 3A E'town) have had no problem with Tilghman the last couple of years.

Very good is a relative term. If you mean competing or a front runner for a state championship, you are absolutely correct. If you are speaking in terms of coming into a season with your 4th coach in 5 years and you play a game at your rival that is 3 classes above you that you lost to by over 30 points the year before and you play with passion and lose on a botched snap, I would call that something to build off of. Tilghman needs structure. I am pulling for Coach Duncan to go upwards from here. You can't be great if you never get to good. With the upheaval Tilghman has experienced, just getting to good is a respectable position at this point IMO. And I think they are good, they just have to believe it and continue that on the field. I think they can battle Caldwell for the top spot in the District. If they get there, IMO that is very good for this season.

 

Now for McCracken, you lose your 3 best players (at least), lose your coach, so you are starting from zero from a personnel standpoint. I think McCracken is fighting a stigma battle. They can't possibly beat the #4 Jefferson County team at this point in time. Their district is not strong and no one gives them credit for any of those wins, so where do you go and schedule from there? Again, you can't be great until you are good. The Mustangs need to establish stability. That is something that their former Coach Jackson just could not give them. I think Coach Clark can, but will take time. You are fighting the Tradition of schools like Mayfield and even Tilghman (Top 20 wins IN THE NATION) that you will not overcome. Just focus on "regaining" or "establishing" stability. All the teams that we covet as very good or great have that. Sorry to unload this on you, but it is easier to be negative on these teams, where I feel they need a ray of sun on this Great Eclipse Day!!!

After McCracken went ahead 20-13 in OT; Tilghman scored. On the onsuing XPoint, the snap was bad and it ended the game.

While I agree with you on most of your points, it doesn't change the fact that both team are not very good/talented this year. Just calling it like I see it. W's will be hard to come by for both teams this year. Mayfield will likely run both of them off the field.

I'm not asking you to change your opinion and from a win/loss vantage point you will likely be more right than I am, but WKY needs these schools to be good IMO, so I am pulling for them to climb that ladder, which I know you know is tough.

 

Honestly, looking at Tilghman's VERY tough schedule it is conceivable they only beat Union County, Ft Campbell and Trigg County. The rest of the teams they play are really good ball clubs, which they likely won't be favored in any of them, so it will be tough.

 

For McCracken, it's a bit easier, but not much. This Friday if their defense doesn't show up they will get beat. If they do, and make NE have to pass then they can win that game. I don't know about the other 2 out of state teams. Graves and Mayfield will be VERY difficult games to win. Daviess is improving but the rest of the district should be easy for them this year so I'd say somewhere around 5 wins is doable for them, maybe more; I hope so.

I assure you I am pulling for them, especially McCracken. I'm just giving my opinion of the teams. IMO McCracken, even though they are technically 6A on student enrollment, are essentially a 3A/4A talent level team most every year. For the first few years, the overwhelming majority of the starters were your Lone Oak kids, with a few coming from Reidland/Heath. I don't know if we'll ever see McCracken compete for a state title in 6A unless the kids that normally would've played at Tilghman end up at MCHS. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think I will be.

I would like for these two to merge and that would create a "monster". Not just for football; a merger may be a better use of educational resources as well as athletic $$$.
