Ryle has a lot of issues to work out. The QB plays is #1. All they could complete were screens. Bisdek was hurt early and the line play for Ryle was not good either. Cov Cath line is also very green and they struggle to run the ball. A team with good DB's and a good d-line will give cov cath problems. Ryle had neither. I think Cov Cath will have a great season if they stay healthy and I think Ryle will struggle all year. On a positive for Ryle, they didn't quit and they have two pretty good RB's

 

You will be hard-pressed to find any DBs that are going to stop AJ and his massive receiving corps.

Not surprising Coach Eviston and his staff have this team playing at a high level early in the season. With the exception of a couple penalties a team doesn't score this many points without excellent preparation. Usually early in the season offense and special teams struggle with defenses excelling. I don't believe Ryle is that substandard, I think CovCath is that good.

On the way home I was listening to the radio and they attributed the late TD run of 80+ yrds to Chisum. That is inaccurate. It was Kyle England. It was late in the game. So subtract those yards and the TD from Chisum's stats.

 

Cam Butler looked big and athletic. It also looked like he was tracking Chisum everywhere the RB went since it became apparent the passing game couldn't hurt them.

 

The bolded statement is probably correct. Ryle will come back and when the opposition isn't as talented as Cov Cath, they will do well. When I look at the talent they have on both sides of the ball I don't see too many teams in NKY matching up with them. I know it isn't all about talent. Coaching, organization, and execution are huge factors but I don't see those areas being a problem long-term.

 

Let's hope the injuries are of the short-lived variety and all players are able to return to form soon. Bisek had his arm in a sling with an apparent shoulder injury. That is the one that looked the most serious. Again, best wishes to the young man for a quick recovery.

Lost 4 kids that are playing D1 football.

 

They also lost their 2 best DL. Nobody really ran on Ryle last year.

Congrats Colonels! Going to be a fun year in Park Hills!

Went to the game last night and yes, the score was great for the Colonels. Better yet was the atmosphere and production of the "show". I came away entertained in all aspects. The Cov Cath community, which includes everyone, have done one heck of a job on the upgrades. Congrats, y'all should be proud of what you have put together. Now if you could fertilize the trees in the SW corner of the end zone a little more then the sun on the home side would be blocked out.

Covington Catholic Debuts New Lights, Stadium in Big Win Over Ryle

 

Covington Catholic celebrated the new Dennis Griffin Stadium on Friday night with new lights and a big win over Ryle.

The school dedicated the new stadium on its Park Hills campus before the game, showcasing the $2.6 million renovation that provided new stands, a new press box, a new turf field (partially funded by a $200,000 NFL Foundation Grassroots Grant), and permanent lighting to allow for evening events for the first time in Cov Cath's 92-year history.

The stadium project is just one part of a $7.6 million capital campaign that also includes the Yung Family Tennis Complex, which opened last year, and a new academic building.

Phase II of the overall campus master plan will include gymnasium renovations and a new multipurpose gymnasium, requiring an additional $2.8 million.

 

But on Friday night, the focus was football and the Colonels opened the stadium with a thrashing of the Ryle Raiders, 49-17.

Had to pick up the middle one from the game last night and there must have been a monster crowd there because there was a logjam on Dixie Highway going south.

The facility looks terrific from the facade on the perimeter to the lighting.

I thought CovCath was an Under Armour school or is that only for basketball? The football team was wearing Nike uniforms.
