We don't get much Clay County news around here. Those numbers are out of this world.

Clay County puts up all kinds of numbers when they are playing terrible teams, then they get blown out by Rock and Bell and usually don't even make the playoffs. Maybe this year will be different?

I think that gap is closing some. Look at the following:

 

2004

Regular season record: 8-2

Lost to Rockcastle County, 56-28

Lost to Bell County, 63-14

Playoff loss to Boyd County, 42-22

 

2005

Regular season record: 6-4

Lost to Rockcastle County, 21-12

Lost to Bell County, 48-20

Playoff loss to Ashland, 49-16

 

I'm not sure that Clay County can claim to be better than either Rock or Bell, but I think without a doubt the Tigers are closing the gap in District 7. With the young quarterback and a new district next season (Letcher County Central, North Laurel, Perry County Central, Whitley County), I think Clay County could make some real noise in the near future.

2. Scored 32 points combined against Bell and Rockcastle in 2005 vs 42 in 2004.

 

3. Scored less points in playoff game in 2005 than in 2004.

 

4. Lost by a wider margin in playoff game in 2005 than in 2004.

 

 

The only stat in your favor is the fact that the Rock and Bell scored less points in 2005 than in 2004. This might indicate that the Clay defense has improved but they still need to prove they can put up the big offensive numbers against quality opponents. That task starts tomorrow night.

Don't follow mtn football much do ya ? Clay has been to the playoffs the last two years. However, they usually do get beaten by Rockcastle County and Bell County so you are half right.

Clay can put up all the stats they want with their easy schedule so far, but they will get beat BAD by Rockastle tomorrow night and I'm not even a Rockastle fan!

You make numerous good points. I think on the whole, though, Clay County is a much improved team. But while Clay lost two more games in 2005, there non-conference schedule is much stronger than it was in 2004. I'm not saying its comparable to Boyle or Highlands or St. Xavier, but its much improved from the past. Most people thought Clay County would fall off to nothing after 2004 and that hasn't been the case at all.

Those stats are crazy, especially since he's only a sophmore

6'2" is tall enough to be a major D-1 prospect if the kid has the talent, but he should really hit the weights and try to put on some lean muscle.

 

For those who have seen him, is he a legit prospect, or just a system guy?
