Russell vs Raceland (2007)

Featured Replies

Thanks for the props cvillecat, our class just followed the leaders before us; like you and your brother. On a trip back to Kentucky, about 6 years after the infamous kick, I went bass fishin’ and turtle juggin’ with Clyde. We were right civil with each other. :argue:

If the series works out maybe a traveling trophy is in order. Sorta like the apple barrel at Paintsville/Johnson Central. Lots of railroad heritage at both schools....trophy could be something as simple as a lantern, hardhat, crosstie, ect.

Does any of the old Russell/Raceland remember the Apache restuarant? Back in the day, it was a hangout for players from both schools...It used to get a little dicey there after we BTD :fire: .

1. I am proud of you, went fishin' and turlte juggin' with Clyde and you didn't drown him :p  2. I also like the idea of the traveling trophy and something to do with the railroad connection. Maybe the "golden railroad spike" or something. 3. I sure do remember the Apache and also the Outpost Fig. By the way have you heard that the Bluegrass in Ashland is closing? That was a major hangout when we were in school. I hate to see it go. A lot of memories around that place.

I think Raceland-Russell is week 10. Could be wrong.

It is week 10.

Thanks Greybeard, it's gets harder to remember as each year passes by. It was a good game but it sure was a tough one to lose. Was John Hillman the QB that season?

The main thing that Im remember about J. Hillman other than he was one heck of a QB is when Randy Heaberlin of Raceland broke Hillmans collar bone on a monster hit. Not celebrating the injury at all, just two outstanding football players.

Here is what I have been told is Russell's schedule for next year...

Russell Red Devils 2007 calendar:

First week--- open

Week 2 - Greenup at Russell

Week 3 - Ashland at Russell

Week 4 - Russell at Boyd

Week 5 - Russell at West Carter -District game

Week 6 - Lewis at Russell - District game

Week 7 - Mason at Russell - District game

Week 8 - Russell at East Carter -District game

Week 9 - Russell at Lawrence County

Week 10 - SOMEONE at Russell - Team has been confirmed (current 4A team)

Week 11 - Russell at Raceland

SK

I really wish the other one could have been worked out though.

Not meaning to get off subject guys, but I mentioned the Bluegrass closing in an earlier post. I think that I am having a "Bluegrass attack", going to have to go up and get a flying saucer, onion rings and strawberry pie one more time.

The district games are played on weeks 3, 5, 7, and 9. Ashland will be week four next year, West Carter week 3.

Were you trying to keep the 4th non district game a secret or do you want to know?

Again, many thanks. See, I told you I was getting old!! That was also my Senior year. The score was Russell 9...Raceland 6

Hillman would have had a field day in today's game of the spread offense. He was a great QB .

Absolutely correct on that score:ylsuper: ……most likely you were a little busy on the field but I was on the sidelines and saw the 47 yard kick bounce off the cross bar and fall over for 3 points. It was the first time I ever saw “Mooch" cry:cry: …...he like you and the rest of us left it all on the field.

Russell had some good players that year, I remember a halfback named Hickman was pretty tough.

It is week 10.

That would make it the week before opening day muzzle loader and fall turkey season…….Hmmmm sounds like a good time to visit ol’ Kaintuck:jump:

:thumb: :thumb: You got that right Fig! Still some pretty good bass fishing around also!

:thumb: :thumb: Great comment, he sure would have been a force with the spread offense.

It did hit the crossbar but it still counts as three!!! and hurt just as bad. "Mooch" was one tough football player. Any idea where he is today?
