Russell vs Raceland (2007)

    I don't own any article of Maroon clothing and do not plan on it. I do however have one Alabama hat with the "A" on it so when I go to an Ashland game when we are not playing them I can wear it and show my support for my other favorite team in the area.

We can call the team the Ram Devils

Was the game in '73 the last time these two played?:flame:

Sounds like we need to start saving wood for a BTD bonfire.....:ylsuper:

Hey Fig, I knew that a Raceland/Russell game thread would draw another Old Ram into the mix. The last time these two played was in 74' - that was the Waggoner 47 yd. field goal game for Russell. Russell was a very heavy favorite and Raceland wasn't given much of a chance at all by anyone. Clyde Waggoner hit 47yd. field goal to win the game by 3. That was my Junior year and would had been your Soph. season.. Cville played in the Russell backfield that game..........from his linebacker position with the Ramblers he was in Russell's backfield all night long.:D I believe that your senior year was the first one that the Ramblers became the Rams and you guys are the team that started a long playoff appearance run and many district titles. A guy named Big Fig was a large part of that.:thumb:

Or the Red Ramblers  Like I said, I am not going there  . I am glad we can talk about it in good fun though.:thumb:

Fig, I believe the last time we played was in the 72 season. 73 would be the graduating year for that team. I was a Jr. and as Oldrambler stated Clyde Waggoner beat us with a FG. I think it was 43 yds. He then went on to kick at Western Kentucky Univ. Maybe someone else with a better memory than I can shed some light. I tried to forget that game.

The woodpile is being stacked as we speak, now we just need a uniform.

You are correct about Big Fig Oldrambler!! He was a big part of the Ram tradition. He not only was a great player but an even bettter person. He and the others in his class picked up on the Ram Pride tradition and passed it on to the younger players and that team concept is still there today!!

With Raceland's non-district schedule, I don't know why they would want to play Russell. I know it's a local game, but I don't know why to get a game that will most likely go against them.

I graduated from Russell with Clyde Waggoner in May 1974. The game would have been played in the fall of 73 - his senior season. That was a good game - much closer than expected. :thumb:
