A former McDonald’s worker has turned the stomach of fast food fans by sharing ‘disgusting’ photos from inside a mouldy ice cream maker.

Teenager Nick, who did not disclose his surname, shared the photos on Twitter, claiming: “This came out of McDonald's ice cream machine in case y'all were wondering…”

Walk into any fast food restaurant in the U.S. and you will find similar disgusting things that can't be unseen.

I worked in one as a teenager. Dirty/grease on the floor, a fallen burger patty under the grill, mess everywhere. Yep, expect nothing less. But this is a lack of proper cleaning maintenance on a machine that has been overlooked for probably months on end. Some things I can let go...this is inexcusable.

Had one the other night. Rather good!

I quit getting the fruit smoothies at McD's a couple of years ago because of a similar issue.

I know that looks discusting, but it is not in the serving area of the machine.

It's an internal pan that sits under the motor and shaft seals. It catches leaks and grease.

Agreed. It looks disgusting.

I wondered why my vanilla cone had sprinkles. I thought I had won some sort of prize for most McDonald's ice cream cones eaten in a year.

The place I work has an ice and water dispenser. One day a coworker filled up her water bottle. She took a big drink out of it and then saw a roach in her ice.

So true. No one should EVER eat out!!! There's nastiness like this at most all of them.

When I lived in Richmond back in the nineties, I went to Shoney's on the weekends for the breakfast bar until.... it was revealed in the newspaper that an employee had been doing a "Steve Bannon" in the gravy.
