They're just hitting fast forward to get to the end now that they're out of material to work with, and they don't care if it makes sense.

 

It's still a must-see spectacle, but it's a much more conventional show now - heroes get bailed out at the last second, characters reset for the sake of drama, the time traveling, etc.

 

They're struggles are probably why Martin can't seem to finish the books. It's going to be really hard to get to the end point in a convincing and compelling way.

 

I feel like ever since they ran out of book material theyare trying to rush to the end and give out fanservice. This season has felt like gratuitous fanservice to me. I am still enjoying it, but I feel like this is all icing with no cake. The last second saves, 2 in a row last night, feel like a deus ex machina along with the sudden speed at which they can travel a continent. Also, why the fan love of Gendry? Maybe as a book fan he doesn't hold as much relevance to me, but all the "squee" that has made it's way around social media with him doesn't make much sense to me.

 

I dunno, Martin is a pompous donkey who has taken his sweet time from the get go. First book came out 20 years ago.

That's kind of where I am with it. It feels like they are rushing it and that they are going against the slow build ups that the series is known for. Their sudden advent of supersonic birds and dragons notwithstanding.

 

Right? It took the entire second season for Arya to travel from Kings Landing to Winterfell and she never even made it! Now we have ravens going back and forth across the length of the continent in a matter of hours.

 

I had a lot of problems with the battle on the frozen lake last night.

 

They're also really pushing this Arya/Sansa conflict and I just don't get it. I don't buy it at all.

 

This season has been a real mess, as far as I'm concerned.

So...yea. I mean, it was AWESOME. But it was also awful. At the end of the day I blame GRRM for letting the show fly by him. Since this is probably the only real ending we will ever get I am going to take what I can.

Also, the Arya/Sansa stuff was much more troubling to me than anything that happened beyond The Wall -- well, except for the stupid idea to begin with.

Yea there have been a number of things I think they've lifted directly from fan websites. The Battle of the Bastards, Gendry rowing jokes, the ice dragon, the frozen lake battle (there's a theory Stannis will do this to the Boltons), Clegane Bowl, etc. If this stuff ends up part of Martin's plan then great, but I'll laugh if they just scooped fans' wishful thinking for ideas. :lol2:

Agreed. They've basically reset both characters to contrive this drama between them. Maybe Arya (and Sansa too) are playing the long con against LF, but for now we're supposed to believe Arya - a shape-shifting assasin trained to such a heightened level of perception she can detect the most convincing lies - is too naive to realize the most conniving character in the series is trying to deceive her.

On another note, anyone else starting to question of Jon is really all that good of a leader? I mean the dude gets saved almost as much as Lois Lane. Be it during the mutiny, the battle at the wall, battle of the bastards, twice while hunting the wight. I mean dude is great with big ideas, but maybe he should leave the planning to someone else at this point. :lol2:

One episode ago... ONE EPISODE... Sansa did a whole big thing about how she doesn't trust Littlefinger. Then she immediately gets up to some nonsense at his behest. These characters are constantly having their motivations for anything just swept away at a moments' notice by these writers.

The Arya/Sansa storyline is definitely the biggest issue I have with this season. If it doesn't turn out that Arya is acting this way in some scheme to get one step ahead of Littlefinger I am going to be very very let down.

Regarding the time issues, do you all want to watch Gendry run back for an episode?

Fast food purveyor of "all the meats," Arby's, will be serving one pound turkey legs - for a limited time - beginning on Sunday. The new item will be added to the chain's beef-heavy menu just in time for the “Game of Thrones” season finale.

 

Although Arby's does not have an official partnership with the HBO show, that didn't stop them from hinting at the correlation.

 

"Turkey is coming," a release from the restaurant reads. "Arby's is getting medieval with its latest menu offering…available at Arby's restaurants in nine regions throughout our kingdom."

 

Those locations are Fargo, "a frigid land in the north," Seattle, Norfolk, "a land of ships…forged from iron," Pittsburgh, Phoenix, Denver, Omaha, Atlanta and Los Angeles, "known for its bountiful…gold."

Season 1 came out the same year as ADWD if I remember. This is all his fault. The writing has gone down hill badly since they passed the books. Not saying that I wont keep watching because it's still the best show on TV IMO but man has it tanked. Had a friend ask me today if he should read the series. Told him not even to waste his time. It's not ever gonna be finished.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm only disappointed in this season because I've held Game of Thrones to a higher standard of entertainment. I'm completely okay with having a weaker story line for the sake of easy entertainment if that's what I'm expecting. Case in point is The Walking Dead. I am a huge TWD fan knowing full well it's basically a soap opera with zombies. But GOT has become what it has become based on intricate story telling and hard and fast rules laid out over the years. When they start to stray from that it glaringly sticks out by comparison.
