Pikeville/Bell County next year?

Featured Replies

Reportedly, Corbin.

Reportedly, Corbin.

That would be a good early season mathup.

It is my understanding after speaking with some of the Bell faithful that the game with morristown west has been canceled. The move by the KHSAA to move everything back one week has conflicted with the Tenn. schools schedule. Also, I am hearing that the City County Bowl is history. Bell will probably go to either Pikeville's bowl or they are going to Lex.Cath. to play in there bowl that week. Also, heard that Danville was coming to log mtn. also, trying to work with North & South Laurel. Sheldon Clark, Powell Co. Tn., and

possibly a week 8 game with Morristown West, they mentioned some other possibilities, but I can't remember them all.

Belfry vs. Corbin

Pikeville vs. Bell County

That would be two great games to get the season started in the 2007 Pike County Bowl....too bad the games can't be played on the same night at the same stadium because that would be a great doubleheader for high school football fans.

Morristown West(TN)
Thats what I thought I watched them play Jefferson Co. when I was in town for the Bristol race. Theyre awesome.

I have not heard any information about the bowl being canceled, but I will ask Kenny Roark or somebody about it tonight at the game.

I shouldn't have said it was history. But, I don't see Bell playing in it anymore.

Heard it on the radio tonight that the City/County Bowl is no more.

^^Is there really that much bad blood between Middlesboro and Bell County???

so why is everyone avoiding Bell?

Because Dudley always fields a good, fundamentally sound, team. :thumb: You can never expect a cake-walk when playing Bell.

It is just so hard for the Bell co. bunch to accept that Middlesboro & corbin

will no longer play them. From the begining of football time at Middlesboro and Corbin, they owned Bell co. when it came to playing football. They both have such a deep tradition of great football with numerous players going on in the college ranks and some even into the pro's. I remember back 20 years ago when Pineville dropped Bell. The Bell co. nation where beside themselves,

for the same reasons as they are today over Corbin and Middlesboro. Yes, Pineville beat them regularly. Not only has Bell lost the local great rivals, they have are losing a great amount of revenue that comes from these games that support their programs. Middlesboro's program will survive because they have their BINGO to support their program and Corbin will survive because of their rich tradition and very active sports boosters, who rank at the top in the state. I think Bell will survive because of Dudley's determination and dedication to the football program at Bell. I saw one of the bell kid's t-shirt last night that I thought said it all about Bell co. football. It said, DON'T HATE US CAUSE YOU AIN'T US!

After reading several Middlesboro and Corbin threads in recent day, it seems that the very things they are decrying about their programs, are the things that make Bell County strong. Discipline; a strong off-season weight and conditioning program; strong coaching staff; kids lined up to take positions of anyone that did not hustle, etc. [Last two weeks, Dudley has benched some starters for a period of time, to let others who were more "hungry" have a shot. Several of them produced! Also the starters got fired back up and motivated. They appreciated what they lost.] Last night's performance by the offense and defense showed the result of the coaches challenge this week. They had to step up at a critical time in the season and they did. Nelson was perfect 10-10 passing! T.R. was running like the TR of old before the Corbin debaucle. Bell has turned a corner at the right time. They go to Mt. Vernon to meet Rockcastle next Friday. It will be a shame for the programs in the area. As the Bell County AD, I imagine you will see Bell refuse to play Corbin, and Middlesboro in other sports as well. It is unfortunate that people want to blame a coach for their own problems. Others have mentioned people coercing players to leave Bell for other programs. Without going into specifics and breaking thread rules.....it has and does happen. People criticized coaches for advising TR to stay at Bell. TR would not have had as good a chance of playing college at a higher level if he left Bell. Cashen's pass driven offense would overshadow his talents. Also because his was "not" a true move.....he would had to sit out a year. I believe this is what happened and the ruling of KHSAA was the reason he decided to return. Other players have been encouraged (even by coaches) and I won't say which school of the two, have been involved in encouraging transfers. Just like the "watering down" of the Bell field when they have put a tarp on it.....people will believe what they want to about the Bobcat Hilton. Unfortunately, jealousy and envy, replace hard work on behalf of players and coaches. Bell County players hit the weight room with a vengeances, and the coaches hit the films....the very next day after the Rockcastle loss in the playoffs last year. Friday night a much smaller, younger Bell team will take on Rockcastle in their own lair. Will heart and determination beat size and home field advantage? Should be a great game and wonderful night for Mountain Football. Bell County moves on. Corbin and Middlesboro programs will be the losers.

You make a lot of good points.

Bell Co. has built their program on the hard-work ethic(much like Rockcastle) and they seem to be able to get the most out of their players, who seem to be a little more dedicated than most other teams players.
