July 7, 20179 yr Making a Fall trek to this and maybe Canton on same trip First off, how's the drive to downtown Cleveland(construction-wise,etc.) and Canton as well What was your impression of the Rock and Roll HOF,would you do it again? How was the area?, may take in an exhibition Cavs game or concert at Quicken as well How does it compare to downtown Cincinnati?

July 7, 20179 yr I went once back in 1996 and topped the evening off with a Sex Pistols concert at Nautica Stage on their Filthy Lucre Tour. The area is really nice right on Lake Erie with seagulls everywhere. There's also a science museum right next to the R&R HOF. I was impressed with the city considering Cleveland once had a not so inviting past. Other than a little bit of driving through the city I didn't venture too far from the museum and the concert venue. It felt bigger than downtown Cincinnati, but if you dig driving through a metropolis downtown to look at all of the eye candy, architecture etc... it's well worth it. As of then, they had built that area up by the lake with tons of bars and restaurants sorta like what they did at the Newport Levee, or maybe even the entertainment district of Louisville. I sorta remember a Howl at the Moon Saloon, and there's a Hard Rock Cafe. It wouldn't surprise me if it has grown even more since. When I was there it was cool because they had giant inflatable figures from Pink Floyd's - The Wall album/movie hanging all around, which with the white block look of the museum it went perfect together. Any R n' R fanatic will enjoy the museum. As far as construction goes I haven't a clue since I haven't been to Cleveland for 21 years.
July 7, 20179 yr Went to the R and Roll HOF about 20 years ago. Was not impressed. Canton was cool (roughly the same time frame). But Cooperstown is where it's at bar none. Unless the Rock and Roll has vastly improved I wouldn't go back unless I happened to be in C-Town

I stayed in a hotel somewhere south of the city probably off of either I-90 or I-71 as I had only stayed for the day and went with something cheaper, because like it's been mentioned, hotel prices in downtown are really expensive. I didn't make the drive all the way home until morning, but just got a little head start by moving in a southward direction to locate a more reasonably priced hotel south of the city.
July 7, 20179 yr I went to the Hall of Fame about ten years ago and went to Cleveland last fall so I know a little but not much about the city. I thought the museum was awesome, but I seem to be in the minority. Most people I've talked to left not impressed. I'm not sure where it is in relation to downtown but I seem to recall it being on the lake. Downtown seemed a little bigger than Cincinnati, but probably prettt much what you would expect. Older area with newer bar and restaurant districts. The basketball arena and baseball stadium are right there as well as a casino. For food, I recommend the Greenhouse Tavern. We had a group who tried a bunch of dishes and most everything was above average. The chicken wings however were the best I've ever had. Seriously amazing.
July 8, 20179 yr Never been. Took a road trip with a buddy to see the first interleague game (Reds vs. Indians at Jacobs Field). They were playing (I think) a Monday game, Tuesday off, then a Wednesday game. We were supposed to go to the R&R HOF on the off day, but he was quite the gambler and we would up at Thistledown race track (simulcast only) and stayed the whole day.

July 8, 20179 yr Why so? To me, it felt like there was a lot of open wasted space in some areas while the actual exhibits seemed crowded together. Maybe my expectations were too high after wanting to go for so long. I got the same letdown after Graceland but those are my issues! LOL Overall, downtown was nice, clean and friendly. We also hit up an Indians game while the Reds were in town. Had a great time there as well as a local bar where we ate lunch beforehand. Solid first blended family trip en route to Niagara Falls. Have a great trip!
July 8, 20179 yr I've been. Enjoyed it. Definitely could be better, but what can you do? They've done amazing work in downtown Cleveland and I really enjoy it. Lots of restaurants and bars in the area bound by Jacobs Field, Quicken Arena, the casino, and the lake.
