Stockton was also on the 96 team, plus you have one of the best guard defenders in the history of the game.

BTW, Magic was only a 12 year vet at the time and he was still the best PG in the game in 92. He wasn't sidelined by anything but AIDS fear and not athletic loss.

Well...he was Magic...his 75% is 150% better than almost everyone else. I still say he wasn't at his peak, but even that is still darn good.

Magic was only 32 or 33 in 92, still had a lot in the tank. Retired due to ignorance of HIV by others.

I keep reading on several threads how unstoppable Shaq was and no one could match up with him ever, thus any team or duo with him is unbeatable. If what many say are true he'd have a dozen rings. Shaq was great, I love Shaq...but he could be stopped or at leady slowed down by good teams. Heck hack-a-Shaq would still work and in today's NBA he'd foul out if he didn't quickly adjust.

Take the Dream team and let them play together an entire season nobody would touch them.

This is my line of thinking although I would change "would lose to today's NBA dream team" to "might lose to today's NBA dream team."

Shooting-wise the 96 team was better. Reggie was a far better shooter than anyone on the 92 team and Steve Smith was about even with Mullin.

 

Ewing and Robinson weren't slouches, but you forget the 96 team also had Hakeem. He was better than either of the 92 big guys.

 

Malone, Barkley, Stockton, Robinson, and Pippen were on both teams.

 

Magic would be the best of the PG bunch, but the Glove was as good as it gets defensively.

 

While I agree the 92 team was the better of the two (mainly because they had Jordan), it isn't a slam dunk like you're making it out to be.

 

Steve Smith is not and never has been equal with Chris Mullin. That's borderline blasphemy.

 

As good as Shaq was he still had issues against centers with strong low post games. Especially David Robinson who could take him inside and outside.

 

Magic can still see over Gary Payton.

 

Pippen, Malone, Barkley, Stockton and Robinson would all choose to play with the 92 Dream Team so you can remove them from 96 team.

Shaq wasn't ever slowed down offensively but he had issues defending centers with strong offensive games. No one ever stopped him when he had the ball. Hack-a-shack had some success but it wasn't a fool proof way to stop him. No one ever really stopped him.

You got that right. He was one year removed from MVP and was arguably in the middle of his prime when he was forced to retire the first time. People forget that a lot.
