June 18, 20179 yr Author Why was the kid there? Simple question. No good answer. Part of a college trip. Universities are big on getting kids the "international experience." I agree with you though. Young adults tend to be unpredictable rule breakers. They don't always realize that they aren't in America. For that reason alone, it is a poor choice for college students. I know someone who knew Otto well in high school. He said no way would he try a prank like that. It is my understanding the video is pretty grainy too. I wonder if anyone is ever found innocent in a North Korean Court?

June 19, 20179 yr Sad story, a kid with his whole life ahead of him dies over a poster he may or may have not stolen. Regardless of whether he did or not, it's absurd that it would end up costing him his life. This appears more and more like North Korea knew he was dying and did not want it to happen in their custody. I'm glad that his family was able to see him one last time, but I seriously doubt that was the reason North Korea released him.
June 20, 20179 yr North Korea is one of the country's that I would never even remotely think about visiting, no matter how much you paid me after paying for my trip. Really a sad story. And I don't know that there's anything we can do in regards to retribution.
