Recency bias. South Warren also wasn't a program that was built like most programs are built. And I am a huge Brandon Smith fan also. I'm interested in seeing where he ends up next when he leaves South Warren.

I think if the right opportunity presents itself then he will leave. I am not sure how much the bump to 5A plays into it but having to beat BG to advance in the playoffs every year would definitely affect my mindset.

Tom Larkey I wouldn't pick here because of age.If not for that he took Rockcastle from obscurity to 2 state championship games. Then took Harlan county from inception to a semi-final vs Highlands dynasty.

Actually Somerset beat the Ads in the Semi-Finals in '88. It was Sam Harp's first year and they rebounded from 0-3 to get that far.

Sure glad that season turned around and his house didn't sell.

Obviously a little bias as I have ties to the program but Randy Borchers would be a pretty good option here. In Cooper's 9 short years they have been to the state championship, two state semi-finalists, 2 or 3 region championships, and about 3 or 4 district championships with a tie or two in there as well. He has built Cooper into a consistent program that continues to rise

Bob Sphire did a great job of building a program from scratch at Lex Cath. Chuck Smith at Boyle built a tremendous program during his 1st term ( worst to 1st). Mike Holcomb did the same at Breathitt during his tenure (worst to 1st). Dudley at Bell, Larkey at Rock, Rains at LCA. In the end, none of these guys won big w/o hosses, but they were the common denominator start to finish

That was the one. I had a neighbor that told me, "If Duffy were still here we'd be 3-0!" I told him he was delusional. I think it was St. X, Tates Creek and Lincoln County (who would go on to finish 13-1 and lose in the AAA semi-finals to Tighlman).

Danville would later lose an overtime game at Bell and then the rematch with Somerset in the semi state. Fort Knox won the state that year convincingly. The Eagles were loaded.
