Open Job: Muhlenberg County

Featured Replies

It was an above average year in Mustangland and they lost in the first round of the region. Owensboro high has a state championship trophy that's 2 years old and Owensboro Catholic has one of the top 5 HS coaches in KY.

Now it's a top 3? WHAT!?

OK, once you get down to 22 or so in the top 25 coaching jobs in the state there are probably several schools you can lump in that range and all make a decent argument to be top 25, and 'Burg can probably be in that argument. But no way on earth is it top 10 and I just can't believe you just ranked it 3rd in the state. I get pulling for your school and all, but Cobra I think you might need to get out of Central City just a little bit.

They've only won the region once?

They've only won the region once?

Yes. Opened in the 2009-10 school year and they won the region the first year. Finished runners-up in 2011, 2012, and 2014.

In that time, Owensboro has won two 3rd Region titles, while Apollo, Daviess County, Meade County, Ohio County, and Owensboro Catholic (along with Muhlenberg County) have each won once.

After looking at numbers and giving it some serious thought I am confident in saying they are easily a top 25 job in the 3rd region.

To say that The Berg isn't a top 25 job is assanine and some saying it might not be top 50 is just flat out insane. Top 25 job easily and like I said it's a top 10-12 job in state IMO but I would put it probably top 5, just based on your criteria.

Madison central

Mason County

The Berg are three of the top, I would say Madison central is 1

Wow. Not even close.

It all depends what your bar is for success. If the measure is winning your district and having the chance to potentially make a run at winning the region with a trip to Rupp, perhaps this is a spot where the competition makes the spot a good coaching job with the potential to be there many years. If the measure of a Top job is having the ability to produce a team capable of winning the State Title and producing Division 1 talent year after year, then no. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so perhaps it is Top 25 based on what you are trying to accomplish.

Shorter way to say it is that a Top 25 job does not translate into having a Top 25 program for some.

It's definitely top 25 in the schools that start with M category.

Even John Prine is shaking is head at this one.

When Muhlenberg consolidated, I thought they would dominate the 3rd region. I don't know where it went wrong, but it just hasn't panned out like I thought it would. Seemed like Muhlenberg North had a more tradition rich program than the combined school has had. I don't think its a top 25 job in the state. Hard to call it a top job when 2 top coaches have left for other schools in less than 3 years.

Anybody that doesn't think The Berg is a top 25 job doesn't know high school sports.

Name 25 jobs better than The Berg.
