St. Xavier Tigers - 2016 Grade

Featured Replies

A-

Even with 4 losses on the season, it's tough to say that the Tigers didn't still have a very good 2016 season. All 4 of those losses last year came at the hands of absolute top-notch state championship winning teams. Trinity, the undefeated KY 6A champs, beat the Tigers 35-13 during the regular season, and then repeated with a 24-14 victory over them in the 6A semifinals. The undefeated KY 5A champion Bowling Green Purples beat the Tigers 31-10, and the Ohio D-1 champion Cincinnati St. Xavier beat them 28-3.

Still, all in all, it's hard to say that St. Xavier had any sort of bad season. I would say the biggest knock against them is the loss to Bowling Green - a team that plays one class below St. Xavier. But still, was anyone losing the 2016 Bowling Green team really a knock against them?

Do you agree with a A- for St. Xavier? What grade do you give the Tigers?

A- sounds about right.

I say a B. An A- with 4 losses is too good for a program with their expectations. And 3 of their 4 losses were on the lopsided side.

Varsity B+

JV A+

Frosh A+

Varsity lost to BG and STX(OH) double digits so why no A. Frosh and JV went undefeated.

Hmm parochial school bais in the grading on these?

If you say so. :lol2:

I'd like to see what posts on this site give you the idea that I've ever shown any parochial school bias in the past though, because if so, I think there are a few NKY parochials who would probably like to talk to me about the power rankings I've put out in the past.

Well your grading scale can lead one to think there is one.

I've only posted 4 grades thus far, and only 1 of those schools has been a parochial. If you were conducting a scientific study, I think your sample size would earn some serious doubts for any conclusions you were to draw.

Based strictly on who those 4 losses were to I can see an argument for A-.

I would say B to B+ otherwise.

No one wants to lose 4 games in a season, but there are not many teams in KY that could have beaten the 3 that gave X an L last season.

This is more of where I am at with the 2016 Tigers. B or B+ for the varsity.

And thanks @Tigerpride94 for adding the JV and Frosh Grades!

Considering you gave a public school a C, with a similar (not exact) situation, but the parochial school got an A-, and knowing you went to a parochial school................

Just pointing it out, thats all.

I just don't really see Russellville's and St. X's situations last season as being that similar. I realize both programs only had losses to quality teams, but then look a the strength of schedule for both teams. How many opponents with winning records did Russellville face, and how many opponents with winning records did St. X face?

Yeah, I doubt that Russelville faced anyone that would come close to beating Cincy X, T, or BG.

Its also 6a vs 1a. Huge difference.

Well no duh, neither did Beechwood and they won the 1A title.
