Paul George did not make the All-NBA teams announced Thursday, which means the Indiana Pacers will likely be unable to sign the All-Star to a contract extension this summer.

I don't follow this closely enough, so help me out here. If he doesn't make an All-NBA team, he can't sign for a certain dollar amount with his current team. However, he can leave in free agency and sign for that amount with another?

Had PG13 made an All NBA team then he would have been labeled their designated player and the Pacers would have been able to offer him a contract with 30M more dollars than any other team per the NBA Labor/Contract Rules. Because he didn't make an All NBA team all the Pacers can do now is offer him a longer contract but the yearly amount would be the same that any team can offer him. So in short, Paul George to the Lakers in 2018.

On Mike and Mike this morning they said the Pacer payout difference was in the neighborhood of a $70 million difference. Something like he could have got 5 yrs/$205 but now it can only be 4 yrs/$130... That is a crazy difference :scared:
