While millions visit the Ark, Grant County is sinking fast trying to avoid bankruptcy

Featured Replies

The church I preach at is about a two mile drive to the ark and I have never been to see it. I drive past it every time I go to church. The parking lot is big. The mexican restaurant seems busy.

You would think Williamstown would get the hint, but they dont.

Not trying to be obtuse, but what hint are they missing?

That Dry Ridge continues to add new places to eat, hotels, other infrastructure to support the ARK and the people that are coming too it. Williamstown continues to grip about its existence and how they are broke and no one spends any money in their town.

Williamstown needs to figure out that the ark is getting people to their area. THEY need to figure out a way to keep them there when they aren't seeing ark and how to bring them back to their town

Didn't the Ark recently try to transfer ownership of the Ark to a nonprofit they own I order to bypass those tax dollars going to Williamstown? I believe the state of KY rescinded tax credits as a result which made Ken Hamm rescind the sale. Very sneaky of him to try to change the rules of engagement and stick it to the city.

Williamstown didnt object to the open transfer initially, it was after the ARK wanted to negotiate the public safety tax that Williamstown was imposing on the ARK, that Williamstown objected.

How much is that tax annually?

It changes daily, you cant get a straight answer.

I've heard from some business friends of mine, that there are businesses that have tried to go on that very same exit ramp or on the Barnes Road exit but the land is just so expensive it's difficult for businesses to profit.

If you remember when Barnes road exit was put in, it was because there were so many businesses that wanted to come in and build right there off that exit. So many, just so many.....its been over 10 years and there have been zero businesses build anything, zero. Nice work Williamstown.

So, how does the city tell the property owners that they need to reduce their price?

Not sure. Perhaps that is the endless cycle. I think their is still a segment of Williamstown that would prefer underdevelopment.

Oh, of that I have no doubt. Saw that when the travel center was proposed out there off the exit. And there's building owners downtown who'd rather see their buildings fall in on themselves than to either improve them or sell them to someone else who would.

That same dumb mentality is why the Kentucky Speedway is in Gallatin Co. Well, that and stupid Grant Co's continuance to cling to the dry county garbage. Grant Co. is in the situation it is in because it allowed religious leaders to dictate public policy. They desperately wanted to build Ky Speedway on I-75, but the idiots in that county wouldn't budge on the booze issue.

Irony, the ARK is where the speedway was going to go.
