Maybe or maybe not. This picture shows me nothing other than the Ball isn't in the 1st baseman's glove and the Runner hasn't reached the Bag yet. Depends on the Angle I guess. Without either Scenario's above you can't really have a Conclusive Decision one way or another.

 

The sequence is not conclusive. It was very close. Close enough that I personally couldn't label it a "bad call".

I don't talk too much about our teams, but since we all seem it's a good idea to promote these kids, here we go!

 

I think one thing that pops out in this article is the play of our younger kids. We are blessed to have a great group of really talented young players coming into our program. It's not just the three 7th graders named in the article that start for us, but we have 4-5 other 8th and 9th graders that contribute every game at the varsity level and other middle school kids that are starters on the JV.

 

Schlosser (7th grader), pitched a 2 hitter in front of a packed house against our arch rival. Impressive!

 

Greenwell (7th grader), makes a diving play that most seniors don't make to end a threat late in the game in centerfield.

 

Mack (7th grader), gets the leadoff hit in the bottom of the 7th to spark the win.

 

I said in the article, but these kids are fearless and play well-beyond their age.

 

We also got great at bats out of a couple of our long tenured JRs when it counted. (Abner and Dill). As well as the play by Gabbard (still just a soph).

 

This group is really starting to come together and it's very exciting to see. So far it's been one of the most exciting teams to coach because of where we started (losing 9 players off last year's team) to where we are headed. These kids deserve all kinds of credit for putting the time in and working their tails off year round with us!

 

As you can tell, the staff is especially proud of this group...regardless what our record is. We have 36 scrimmages to get ready for when it counts!

Let's not make this call the subject of this great game. There were calls on both sides that could have changed the game. This was one run and we would have gotten two on the last hit if we needed it.

 

It was a great game and both teams played very well and with a lot of heart. It was great to be a part of win or lose. It's a learning experience regardless of the outcome and I expect any rematch will be outstanding. But there are other teams in our district that are looking to have a say in that rematch!

Well said (did I really just say that....LOL), especially your last sentence.

Just to be clear I'm not saying the umpires cost NewCath the game......calls go your way and they don't, that's part of the game.

 

Our girls played great defense and Meyers threw a really good game, but the hits weren't there when needed.....it happens.

 

Despite ending up on the losing end of things last night it was a great game to be a part of, as both teams played near flawless ball, with good pitching and some flashy leather.

 

BTW, have no idea about the sign stealing that was mentioned, first time I've heard about it, nothing was relayed to the dugout.

 

Also send Gracie's dad a very complimentary text about his daughters pitching performance.

Seriously? I think parents being removed from lower level games for questionable conduct is much worse than supposedly "stealing" pitch signals.... ? Good game ladies. ?

Somewhat off topic but IMHO the stealing signs things ( for the offensive team ) could just be ignored by the defensive team . Here's why . If you think a fan/coach can steal a sign , relay it to the hitter , and have that hitter make some adjustment in the 2-4 seconds it takes the pitcher/catcher to get that pitch delivered you are crazy . Yesterday our pitcher was crying the blues after an inning saying " they are on our signs " and rightfully our coach said " we just threw a shut out in game 1 and its scoreless this game , whatever they are doing isnt helping a bit , just PITCH " Your AVERAGE hitter isnt able to some miracle adjustment 4 seconds prior to that pitch being delivered , just isnt happening . I think the ole " go with it " or " get ahead of it " tip for location is hugely over rated . just my opinion .
